Mount to dismount. That means if you have your vehicle, you drive it to park it, away from where you are working. Go on foot knowing that your vehicle is your exfil, if you make it back to that. You don’t want to park it somewhere that has prying eyes. Somewhat inconspicuous, yet out in the open to not raise alarm. Parking lot with other vehicles or something.

Agreed. However I feel like airborne loadouts are more comparable to minuteman than motorized light infantry. Paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines and must hold out for much longer sustaining themselves before they are relieved. In a homeland invasion or tyrannical government we're not going to have sustainment right behind us, we're going to be stuck behind enemy lines for quite a while. Static defense is great, but the minuteman are the first to respond and are going to meet the enemy in the next county over, not wait for them to be on your street, however for older members of the militia or women, they will defend at home. I don't expect my wife to leave the children and go with me. However once the full militia is raised and we're able to hold territory and have logistics established I could see a return to light infantry that only needs an assault pack before the caravan catches up.
@Goldenwithaleash10 ай бұрын
As an average prepared citizen, I break it down into two basic categories. Static defense and patrol. For static, I’m going armor and battle belt. Patrol is chest rig, backpack, sustainment gear, etc… Both are situationally dependent and important.

In the military you get used to carrying alot of heavy stuff that you probably wont need to as a civilian. Hell, I did the whole infantry scout thing as an RTO and that weight sucked even with some batteries cross loaded and no body armor. As a civilian I dont need to carry a 150, a tough book, and all the batteries, etc. The biggest issue with running armor isnt so much weight (still a pretty big consideration) it is how it interfaces with your pack/ruck and heat retention/reduced airflow. What might normally be a super comfortable pack that manages weight well becomes an awkward gremlin clinging to your back when you have body armor on. Also, if it's hot out you wont have very much fun. So definitely see how your pack interfaces with your PC. Another option I dont see mentioned a lot is running just a single plate. Some chest rigs allow you to run a single front plate. You wont have an option to run one in the rear and your chest rig will be very front heavy but if you gotta carry a pack (comfortably) and still want ballistic protection it is an option. At the end of the day body armor covers a small (but vital) area of the body. Best case scenario you are up against someone competent enough to hit that 10×12 plate and nothing else. Worst case scenario you have been suffering with a heavy pack and armor for days and someone lands a pelvic girdle shot.

well fitted alice gear using a old H harness is such a great system even to this day. when set up right it will keep you alive and going for 72 hrs. Special forces, and Rangers operated for decades without body armor and ballistic helmets out in the field.

I have a modern version of my old H harness I used when I was recon platoon in Vicenza late 80s early 90s. Yea...I'm old. Tried and true, great ventilation and comfortable. With a good butt pack sustainment and shelter loadout I can go for days in it.
@timsimmons999510 ай бұрын
Of course in a stationary defense situation, max body armor is wise. However in a dismounted (or even mounted) mobile scenario, there is a trade off between armor protection versus short or long term spine and joint injuries, mobility, exhaustion, and dehydration. That tradeoff tends to occur rather quickly, and you can quickly become combat ineffective with these issues.
@theintrovertedcalifornian504710 ай бұрын
Well disciplined soldiers or civilians is much more important than body armor in a defensive position. Noise ,light ,radio discipline will serve you much better than worrying about body armor. For example in the middle of the night someone lighting a smoke can be seen from a couple football fields away.

Trench, As a Cav guy when I was active duty, both at bliss and Vilseck, making the transition to the guard, and the infantry, and on top of that, Alpine Infantry in the 86th IBCT, I was not expecting to see body armor treated as such a “maybe” in our METTTC. Years of vehicle mounted doctrine conditioned me to run my IOTV with pouches attached, med left, nods in a canteen right, 3 doubles in the middle. Now I’m running that same T. rex quad flap on top of an easy to pack lo vis carrier, as plates are issued ON LANE for live fire, and immediately hot swapped to the next shooter. Imagine my shock lol. Currently experimenting with a “hyper light” sustainment belt with the water, food, and wet gear and things found in an assault pack to combine with the chest rig for short duration patrolling. Currently unsure whether it’s worth it over running a dedicated medium ruck (like my crossfire DG3 AW). Would love to see your opinion on running belts as a sustainment option supplementing armor or rigs, and where they fit into a shooter’s toolbox.

It would be safe to assume that there are software back doors built in so governments can bypass such a thing. Your best bet is to put it in a faraday pouch and/or remove the battery if possible. There's a reason modern cell phones no longer have removable batteries. They claim it was for "waterproofing". That was just a side benefit. The real reason is so you can never really turn it off and block access.
