The amazing Chet Atkins, the master guitarist. I am 80 and since a boy I listened to Mr. Atkins...sometimes I'd be so moved I would weep. I wish I could have seen him in person; even see him & Glen Campbell do something together. Chet makes it look so effortless. I was there in the glory days of the best country. I am grateful for that.

There was a time Chet was on NN, it was done outside. Chet blew a note, and the band's faces were priceless!! When they came around to the part again, he flubbed the same note the same way, looked back at the band, and winked. Their faces said "He's the coolest guy EVER!".

Great story! I'm guessing that was in the early 60's when Chet, Boots, and Floyd were doing their Festival of Music tour and Jerry was a regular guest. Jerry was indeed the wild man but Chet had a few surprises also. A friend of mine who was a member of Pine Tree Country Club, Kennesaw, Ga witnessed Chet and Jerry playing a round of golf. According to my friend, Chet won the round and Jerry was upset so he challenged Chet to see who could throw a golf ball the farthest for the agreed winnings. Chet, with his long arms, beat Jerry easily so Jerry challenged him to see who could spit a golf ball the farthest. Although not very dignified, Chet ended up winning the whole pot.

This man inspired me so much to play guitar. I just had to do it. In 1974 I picked up my first guitar. Been playing every cent because of Chad Atkins. George Harrison. And of course the Eagles all inspired me to play guitar even Creedence Clearwater, revival and John Frogley, but the most inspiration was Chad Adkins. 49 years later and I am a finger style guitarist. Thank You. Chet Atkins, or such a great impact on my guitar playing. I miss you. May you rest in peace and may the good Lord have a place in his heart for you👍🏼👍🏼😁❤️🎸☮️

Chet is 10000 better musician , then all the names you mentioned combined... really in a league with a few ppl. I am a big jerry garcia fan.. but let's be real here lol. Chet Is in a league of his own.. if you take all the talent we both mentioned and combined it to one picker.. chet would still be a more talented picker😊

David, I don’t believe Mark Brown was implying that other guitarists listed were on equal standing with Chet; they are just other guitarists who inspired him to study guitar. What was made vey clear in Brown’s statement was that Chet Atkins had the greatest impact on him.

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for making this precious timeless collection of sheer brilliance available to the broader public. I discovered Chet Atkins at the time of a great personal tragedy, sorrow and hopelessness. Chet's music helped to soothed my heart. His concerts were my only consolation. It was beyond the music talent, it was a human connection like no other. I am so grateful and will keep watching Chet Atkins till the end of times. Thank you again for your amazing posting!

My grandparents took me to Nashville to buy 2 Tennessee walkers. We had the filly bought but he wanted a coming 2 yr stud colt. We went into a small cafe for lunch and Chet Atkins came in. He said hi to everyone there. He came to our table and asked what brought us to town and my grandfather said we were trying to find a colt to buy. He set us up with singer Carl Smith where we found a wonderful stud colt. Carl Smith had tried to talk me into getting the colt I hadn't picked because he was nicer in conformation. I explained that the colts were both nice, but the one I chose had a nicer temperment. I said that they would get bigger and stronger but grandfather had cancer and would soon be weaker. I wanted a horse that he would love and that I knew would take care of my grandfather as he became more ill. Carl Smith smiled and put his arm around my shoulder, saying that I was a good granddaughter. Apache was a wonderful stallion for him. Thank you Chet Atkins and Carl Smith for you warmth, helpfulness and kindness to complete strangers. God bless the people that are so willing to help others. I love both men for helping me give my grandfather his final wish in life. ❤
