Chet baker was not only a master of the trumpet but, one of the greatest voices in jazz in my opinion. His understood the sensitivity and emotion involved. Really sad to think of how he struggled with his addiction.
@michaelchapman49553 жыл бұрын
Sadly, many struggle with addictions... 'I spent many yrs frequenting LA jazz supper clubs, higher than a Kite catching Art Pepper, & so many giants including Bill Evans who were stoned out of their minds like several of us at countless jazz venues all over the LA map

@@michaelchapman4955 I saw the classic Coltrame Quartet in Chicago in the late 'sixties - swacked on Robitussin AC and weed, LOL. I kept seeing two of Jimmy Garrison. I later won my own struggle. Too many, like Chet, didn't. Picked up trumpet myself later on. I love everything Chet ever did.

Not sure he "strugled". I remember someone saying being on tour with him in asia/japan? Chet told he could not wait to get back to europe so he could use again. I think he had come to terms that he'll always use and wanted to use. Thats that.

Chet in probably one of his most creative points of his beautiful career. His thoughts add playing were pure and his execution was near perfect, very few missed notes and incredible phrasing. Simply the best jazz trumpet player that ever lived.

Moito obrigado

Chet is not one of the greatest jazz singers and trumpet players because of his technique, range, virtuosity...he is one of the best because he THINKS AND FEELS JAZZ. Jazz is an emotional state, and Chet is the bluest guy I've ever heard!
@edwardpritchard17825 жыл бұрын
Savaged by critics and the press who completely missed the reason for his popularity. Chet connected with listeners, always making magic of the music. His horn and voice mere plumbing on the way to our feelings. In my 70 year professional trumpet player I believe Chet was the finest jazz musician regardless of instrument. Over 30 years since his death, he gains fond fans, young and old once they hear him

spotted that one too, mate. Sometimes you (well, I) can bring up a decent vein in that vicinity...Anyway, it seems quite probable that it's an abscess. Ah the gore and the glory of junk!

Thanks a lot for sharing this video ! And some good news :-) , For the occasion of Philip's 75th Anniversary, Warner Music France just released on 24 Nov 2017 a 5 CD-Box : ‘Selected Works 1974-1982’. It includes Philip's 4 classic albums 'September Man’ (1974), ‘Guitars’ (1975), ‘Babel’ (1980), ‘End of August’ (1982) and a previously unreleased recording 'Solo Bremen 1979 & 1982’ album. A complete booklet with notes by some great musicians and the original vinyl artwork faithfully reproduced, except ‘Solo Bremen’ which is illustrated by a painting by great artist Gilles Fiszman.
