No disrespect to the actor or to this man, but the director really dropped the ball on this one. The fact that he thought he could ask someone with no experience to just mime essentially through all the scenes ON LAST MINUTE NOTICE shows how little he really understands what we as orchestral musicians do. And with such little understanding or care, he should have never even done this project in the first place. It honestly makes me kinda angry. Like Chevalier the man deserved better. I liked every other aspect of this movie. Loved that it gave a voice and spotlight to a black composer and musician. Loved its message and story. But watching the actor struggle through virtuosic violin playing just took me out of it. Anyone whose spent a decent amount of time studying the violin would know that it's off.

The actor did a brilliant job in learning the movements in short time but I really wished the film used doubles for the virtuosic parts, he looks extremely tense playing ( which 100% what a beginner will look like in such a short time even if he works very hard). The actor playing Mozart in contrast looked natural, probably because he had prior training or they actually used a double. It’s like in action movies, where you have stunts for the really acrobatic parts. That director choice really hindered the immersion on the film, seems if they sticked with the original plan the movie would’ve been much much better.
