I only ever needed to have one Flex Fan shatter, grenade, and put holes in the radiator and the Ram-Air hood on my '70 Judge. Lesson Learned. Now , I use a polymer fan off of Hum-Vee's with the HD desert cooling clutch, Victor Jr. water pump, 160-190* fan (depending on the application) and a Be-Cool or Cold Case rad-gia-tor. More modern rides I use multiple E-fans, pull and push as needed with E-thermostat switch (relay controlled fans always, on the ground side of the circuit) with an override switch in case the T-static switch fails. Water Wetter in the coolant helps it cool more efficiently,.. once I know the cooling system integrity is OK, I use 50/50 mix of antifreeze and a proper pressure cap. Every degree of pressure increases the boiling point 1 degree Fahrenheit per pound, at sea level. So, in effect, an 18 pound pressure cap will increase the boiling point of the coolant from 212 degrees at sea level, to 220 degrees at sea level. Anti-freeze is also important depending on the vehicle and cooling system/engine, as some systems must have silicate-based coolant, some silicate free, and mixing them can be disastrous. Dex-Cool/long life coolant isn't necessarily the bogeyman for cooling systems than it is made out to be. It doesn't necessarily corrode, rust, clog, turn to snot or the like as people have seen. What causes that is whenever someone somewhere adds tap water to the system. Factory sealed without tap water used will not cause it to corrode rust, clog or degrade. It's when the factory, the dealer, or some other Joe Schmoe adds tap water to the system, and it begins to break down within a year or less. The other things that cause it are a contaminated system or combustion leaks that allow acids or petrochemicals into the coolant as well as tap water and water with minerals. In a clean new, completely virgin system, a rebuilt engine that has been dipped and the passage ways in everything cleaned, new hoses, radgiator, heater core and the rest, with Dex Cool (or whatever long life) and pure bottled water, like the 99 cent per gallon stuff you buy from the Pharmacy, will not degrade and will last for at least 5 years. Problem is, GM never educated people not even their own on the assembly line or dealer that the system cannot be mixed with plain tap water, and caused tens of millions of dollars in damages and failed coolant systems. I've used Dex Cool in my GM and other brand cars, as well as Texaco and Toyota Long Life coolant with pure water from the jug (never tap not even in the overflow) and never had a failure in my coolant or cooling system. I've had Texaco Long Life in my 2000 Durango SLT 4X4 for nearly 20 years, having replaced the green stuff, and only changed it twice in that time, with no failures or clogging/breaking down of the coolant. I've been the only owner in that time. What heads are on the Chevelle? I didn't see any accessory holes drilled in the front's so I was thinking they are either 202 Double Humps or early Dual Quad-Fuelie "Powe Pak" heads? Either can be made to work with great effect, though they are getting pricy in my neck of the woods the last 2 decades. Better option are the later Vortec "Fast Burn" heads, or if you can find them (cheap), the L-98 Corvette aluminum heads with 58CC chambers, which you can fit bigger valves in and add some port matching as well as bowl work plus open up the runners to make 'em flow like gangbusters. Later 2 and 4 bolt blocks can easily have the lifter valley stand off's tapped and drilled at home to allow for roller cam and lifters to install, the OEM spider hold down retainer, and the front drilled as well for the roller cam retainer. There are retainer-less setups that don't need the spider to hold the lifters, but using the factory parts is what makes it cheap and doable. I like using roller cam's in small blocks, older and newer, and for really all performance engines , versus Flat Tappets. It is not because I don't like Flat tappet cams, but unless you constantly add Zinc and other Dinosaurs, you can so easily end up with a wiped lobe(s) or dished lifters, or both as well as other valvetrain woes and metal throughout. The other benefit of roller cams versus flat cams is you can run a whole lot more lift and ramp, without float or other issues, as the roller follows the cam lobes very precisely. Plus you can re-use undamaged roller lifters (they almost never are damaged unless something grenades) over and over with different cams, even mix them up when removing and reinstalling them on the same cam, without worrying about any damage or wear on the roller lifter itself of the camshaft. Yea, they cost more, but you don't throw them away every time, and they can be used many times over and over, in different motors and with different cams. Same with Roller rockers, pushrods being the most disposable item next to valves themselves in the valvetrain Whatever cam you have in there it sounds awesome, Derek, like that "Mother-Thumper" cam or something really similar. I want to thank you again, for sharing such a Cherry Chevelle with all of us! I love your cars, and your channel, Derek. Thank you for doing what you do for us to watch at home. I might need to get the wife to help me to drive out to South Dakota one day, to your buddy's place and bring me back a decent Buick Riviera. Towing one behind my Durango on a flat trailer wouldn't be an issue. The Riviera is really the only car left that I want that might still be realistic for me to afford, something I can make nice and use as a going to town rig as you call it. Something unique and different, something I can be proud of, and take to shows around here. We're pretty close to Carlisle, about 35 miles or less, and I'd love to have something I can take on car cruises around here or maybe put in the Carlisle show,. something with balls, stylish, comfortable, with AC ( I cannot take the heat of summer anymore), a head turner, something not everyone else has, like Challengers, Camaro's and Mustangs. My grandpa is the one who influenced me to love Buicks, and the 66-68/ nd '71 Riviera has always been my favorite. The only other car that comes close is the A-Body, specifically the '73 Grand Am, with either the 400 or 455 SD and factory 4 speed, maybe with the Can-Am Shaker hood. I think that is my only real bucket list car, more than a Riviera, a '73 400-455 4sp Grand Am with a Can Am Shaker and hood. Those area about as rare today as hen's teeth! You showed a 66-68 ( couldn't tell the exact year from your video) on camera, walking Zweifel's property, not inside the building, but under the awning area, and I really really want a Riviera badly, but everything here in Pennsylvania is rusty or too expensive and not worth it, and or both. I want a '66-68 Riviera the most, a '69 is OK, or I could die a happy man with a '71 Riviera GS, which I know I'll never own in my life, as they are too expensive for an old Veteran like me on disability to ever afford... So I get to live my desires watching you on your channel. You do things the way I used to when I was still in the business. I've been disabled almost 10 years now, and miss working on cars and building cars every day of my life. so you enjoy it for us both, and never take a day of it for granted, no matter how bad a day it is or how much the situation sucks...

I’m so glad to hear somebody else say “The ole F2-shitty” , as a Chevy guy I never hear that when mostly all of my friends and family members are Ford guys. That made my night when I heard that, and I must also agree that Def Leppard is pretty good😂😂😎🤘🏻

I'm a Ford guy so I automatically said, "Hey!" But I really wasn't offended. This channel is so great I can truly appreciate all these cars and trucks he restores to whatever condition he wants them to be. Long live classic cars and trucks!!

"There will always be another one," except you never forget the one you put all your time, blood, and sweat into so the family can have a HOT cruiser! I KNOW!

I've had my 70 for 23 years. There will never be another one unless I buy another one and make a pair. Some things just aren't for sale

Man that thing is cherry. Lot of work into that. I know you are sad to sell it but I am proud of you for thinking about what is the best for your family. Keep a couple hundred to buy another I will be along with you on your ride.

One of the things that help keep valve covers from leaking is these metal strips that rest on the sides of the valve covers that when tighten down the bolts it puts a broader area along the edge of the cover. Light weight aluminum covers will bend and cause a leak. also using valve cover trees that use set screws make changing valve covers much easier.

You know you've got a powerhouse when the exhaust from the car is sweeping the floor behind you as you back out of the garage.

I feel your pain brother, I had a 1979 dodge power wagon that I spent 5 years or so finishing a frame off restoration and only ever put a couple thousand miles on it myself before I ran into some hard times and had to sell it last year. At least we can always have the memories of the countless hours a guy spent on them and the hunt will always go on for the next one. I’ll always miss that rig, it got so much attention it wasn’t even funny. There’s probably a video of it out there somewhere cause I had multiple people come up at gas stations and take videos of it.

Well I’ll be dimpled!! I know that feeling all to well, hard to let one go! I did the same 6 years ago almost to the day, wife was expecting and my daughter had a heart condition the only way to treat her while my wife was still pregnant was to treat my wife and taking heart meds when you don’t need them make her real sick and so he had to go on bed rest. So I let my square body muscle truck go! She told me I could always buy another in a few years but a few years never came lol! Hard to replace something you put years of work into!

With that level of detail and workmanship, I've seen them go for 6-Figure paypays. Just really depends upon what a guy would let it go for and how much he values his time and expertise.
