WELCOME TO THE 1980s Steering racks that were hard to turn when cold were a thing for GM vehicles made 43 years ago (Chevy Citation; Olds Cutlass Ciera). I guess GM turned to 43 year old designs when making their EVs. (Failure was called Morning Sickness)

Yes it seems to be a common issue. I have a 2019 Chevy Bolt and mine went bad at 34,000 miles. Dealership wanted $3000 to repair. Luckily my son knows his way around cars and he was able to fix it. He also did a KZbin video on the repair. I think Chevy should do a recall on the part.

We just got another bolt EV with the same problem. But the rack was replaced just a year ago and it was paid by the sales department. Sent it back to Chevy for parts warranty but they declined it cuz it's been like a few weeks over a year. So I'll be doing another one on a different bolt.

Nice job. 👍 Back in the 90s owned a Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8L, especially on cold mornings, steering got very stiff, don't recall any clunking though. Had the rack replaced, then not long after sold the car and haven't owned GM vehicle since. Bolt steering issue reminded me of that vehicle. Hopefully repair will last a while for the owner. Stinks can't get new OEM replacement, though I imagine it would be significantly more expensive.

Brand new was around $450 cad at the Chevy dealer it didn't sound too bad.

If you've installed a WeatherTech floor mat and not fastened it down properly to the fasteners below the removable carpet, your steering column will make a clunking noise when the wheel is turned. The WT matt is rubbing against the steering column,

I put in a used rack no eta on a new rack due to the strike going on with gm. So don't have a part number.

Learn to convert? 10c is 50f, 20c is 68f, 30c is 86f, 10 of 1 scale is 18 of the other. Easy as that.

We got a 70 cent raise which is below the inflation rate for this year. Lol The sales department is paying for it since it's within the 90 days and sales is also taking care of a rental vehicle.

The clunk on mine was from the swaybar link drivers side apparently that's an issue also

We are a Honda dealership but I have replaced 3 racks so far on the bolts. I have also replaced sway bar links on one. And also found the steering shaft closest to the steering column pinch bolt backs off slightly causing play and causing a clunking noise.

Is it hard to replace the rear motor mount?

Once you drop the subframe with it supported and a jack to lift up the motor the motor mount can come out fairly easily.

What are they quoting for labour and parts? I don't think there is a labour time for that mount on the rear. Mitchell only shows the left and right mounts.
