I love how dodge went from basically selling an ancient 22 year old truck platform in 1993, to the next year being the biggest threat both Ford and chevy had seen in 2 decades.

@@joestewart5406 it won truck of the year from JD Power and MotorTrend in 1994. Heck even the Henry Ford Museum has a factory fresh one on display noting its significance. Love it or hate it, it was a big change in truck philosophy that broke the square era mold and forced Ford and Chevy to up their game. Sadly it can be blamed for starting the luxury truck concept to make it more attractive to non-truck buyers driving up demand and prices.

GMT-400s are one of the best designed trucks GM put out, and were rather great trucks. Classy, solid trucks. But man...Dodge's 1994 Ram was beyond a looker. It wasn't until 2019 with the current new Ram were they made anything as good looking. The 06-18 trucks were hot meh. I'd say as the years went on, GM played to their customer base with a slightly smaller footprint for truck and cab while Ford and Dodge grew each generation. The current T1 GM trucks are the biggest yet and measure for measure just about identical as Ram and Ford. Sitting in them, GM and Ram feel similar in "atmosphere" while Ford you are swimming in it.

The Cummins was far superior. The V10 was the most powerful engine available in any pickup. And the new chassis and design were way more modern. Dodge started the trucks wars. And some would say still hold the title silently as the best truck you can buy

The fact that GM spent this amount of money just to rebut the Ram, shows just how worried they were about the dodge. Unfortunately in true Chrysler fashion, dodge stuck in a horrible, plagued transmission that would destroy any hope of changing perceptions of the brand.

Dodge- 3.9 V6, 5.2 V8, 5.9 V8. Multi port fuel injection, very reliable engines. 42RE trans with the V6. 46RE with the V8. Chevrolet gives you a 4.3 V6, 5.0 V8, 5.7 V8. Throttle body fuel injection. 4L60-E automatic transmission. The GM throttle body fuel injection system is not remotely as technologically advanced as the multi port fuel injection of the Dodge. The Chevrolet fuel system is dead reliable! 2 fuel injectors for V6 and V8 engines. Dodge has 6 injectors for the V6 and 8 for the V8. The Chevrolet dashboard is VERY ergonomically correct (save for that damn tape deck!). Everything is where you need it. I love a Chevrolet 350. Always have! Both these trucks are awesome. Those Dodges were awful rust buckets though.

I’ll give them credit, they definitely hit the design right out of the ballpark when that came out in 1994. However, the quality was still typical Chrysler. It didn’t last very long whatsoever. They’ve had a lot of issues with the electrical systems as well as the transmissions. I have to admit, I really did like the new style from 1994 to 2001, but I’ll still gladly keep my 2000 Chevy Silverado any day of the week. Dodge may have beaten Chevy back, then with the looks, but GM knocked them out of the ballpark with reliability, dependability, and outstanding service at the local dealership.
