Oh man. You're definitely correct on the doors being sharp. Not a professional, but I have changed quite a few regulators. It's like a fricken razor blade in most doors. The worst part is sometimes you don't even notice until you find blood everywhere LOL

This was a detailed and accurate video. Had to go through the same hoops to get the right regulator since they have different plug versions for the motor. Just go straight to dealership to get the easier pre 2013 mod that has the external plug. Thx, was great help

Video is good, but I snapped the little door cable receptacle in the process of trying to undo it and I don't know what to do now.

Sometimes it can be glued, sometimes it might need to be replaced. I’ve made tiny brackets to hold small items also, but it takes some patience and maybe even drawing out on paper to sort out.

@@JimmyMakingitwork hmm. is it safe to superglue plastic? i seem to remember that it doesn't work very well ..... not that i can find the other bit to the connector in the first place; it hit the ceiling and landed somewhere in the back of the garage so it's probably just lost to the Void™. at this point the door is messed up six ways to sunday so it might be worth just taking it to the shop and/or replacing the whole thing outright. very much appreciate the video though

Jimmy, please explain to us viewers, how can Buick, a GM product that shares the same parts with the rest of the GM lineup have head and shoulders better reliability than the rest of the line up from which it shares commonality?

That is a great point, the exact same vehicle other than trim. Most likely customers want to like their Buicks more than Chevrolet customers so they are more kind during surveys?

But what broke on it? The motor sounded fine, couldn't you just fix or replace whatever plastic clip or pulley broke or came loose?

The added labor would put weigh the price of the part and make a warranty more difficult. This is the best repair.

@@erichannes6392 That's my point... rather than pay $100 to $150 to replace the whole regulator, why not just replace the $5 plastic part? Actually, I had been thinking of making one myself with a 3D printer, although it probably wouldn't be strong enough... incidentally, I had a faulty regulator in an Olds Silhouette where it *was* the motor, not the cable assembly... it was also easy enough to pull off the motor by itself and, although I couldn't find a replacement motor, I was able to troubleshoot it down to the carbon brushes... and was able to find an acceptable replacement from the RC marketplace (the carbon brush had to have a spring on it, otherwise I could have fabricated one from a AA carbon-zinc battery) In any event, I found another video that shows how the existing plastic part is designed poorly, and the poster should how you could use an allen-head screw to hold the broken plastic pieces together, and actually make it stronger... so I'm going to do that with the other unbroken one as well, so it will never break... extra time to drill the holes and assemble the screws, maybe a 1/2 hour, and the cost of the screws nuts and washer, under $3 Took longer to find the video!

The step where you unhook the string cable was difficult to come off. I forced it and now I can’t hook the string cable back. It seems that I broke the part where the wire is supposed to hook on to. Hopefully that makes sense. By any chance does anyone know what the part my be called? I can’t find anything online. I have a Chevy volt 2014

Do you mean the door handle cable? Usually you release the cable housing from the door handle bracket and then it fits thru a small slot and will lift out of a hole that the handle pulls to activate the cable.

I believe I broke the door handle bracket. For sure not the cable. I ordered a couple of door lock rod clips, hopefully that’s the part.
