Very common issue in these first gen volts. I tried to cover all the steps with clear video so you can see how to replace the regulator.

Thanks bro! Very much appreciated!! You saved me 100's of dollars! The dealership was going to charge me $500 for this. I saw your video. Went and got the AC Delco part for $150 and installed it myself in less than an hour!

I'm glad the video helped. Please consider subscribing! Also for anyone else watching the original part is also available directly from the GM dealer or ebay for around 125 dollars.

@@abuzar1 I will subscribe. Also, I def saw the parts for cheaper online. Only reason I bought from them was because it was closest to me.

So we replaced the regulator/motor once and two years later the window wet the bed again. So we took the panel off and found that switch, motor, and regulator were all working. What had happened is that the wiper strip got snaggy and caught the window and the window clips let go. So we loosened the window clips, put the window back in, tightened the clips, siliconed the wiper gasket, and saved $700 that the dealer was asking.

Another amazing video! Keep on turning 'em out, and we'll keep on tuning in! I don't even own a volt, but I'm a big fan of your production and level of detail! Will continue to recommend your channel!!

Dr. Baloach, can you please advise the socket sizes on the bolts? Is it 1/4" bolts to remove the door trim and then 3/8" bolts once the door trim is off?
@abuzar13 жыл бұрын
Daniel Bogin I don’t exactly remember the socket sizes but I believe the door trim was 8mm and the inside bolts were either 10 or 12mm. I used all 1/4 inch sockets but you can use whatever is available in those bolt sizes.
@Tamarinera233 жыл бұрын

Yup, very common on the Volt. i'd already done both the front doors, then the driver side broke again. The plastic part that attaches to the window clamp broke. $170 for the regulator at the dealer but at least it's an easy DIY. I bet the dealer guy can fix these in 20 minutes (I could) but they will still charge you around $500, which is 2-3 hours of labor.

Is yours a 2014? I think during that model year, they made a change. I guess on eBay or maybe amazon, or maybe both, they don’t know there’s a difference and will send the wrong part. It’d probably be good to check NAPA or somewhere else like O’Reilly.

Before repairing the window I propped the window up with a piece of wood and noticed my door ajar alarm would not recognize the door was closed. I bought a door lock actuator for 70 off ebay and put it on before the window regulator. I had to take out the window to take off the door lock actuator. Before putting on the window I tested the door by closing it and the car still didn't recognize the door was closed. I put the window back in and put the regulator on as well. The window would reopen when auto closing. I blew on the window regulator harness and it worked fine. I put everything back and closed the door to find the lock didn't press down. When I tried to open the door the door handle seemed stuck as well. I got mad and pressed the lock with 18 pounds of force and it finally crunched down. I also put as much force opening the door. Now everything works. The door ajar alarm turns off. I don't think I needed the 70 dollar door lock actuator. I also stared at the car for 10 minutes wondering if anyone else can benefit from my frustrating experience. I get anxiety working on the car I rely for school where people used to boost stereos in the early 2000s. I have a stereo in there that may cause static also the car was salvaged.

Any chance you can identify which tools to buy?
@abuzar12 жыл бұрын
Do you have a socket set? If not I would get a quarter inch ratchet and some small sockets to go along with it. That plus a couple screw drivers is all you need.
I finally bought the part and did the repair yesterday!!! I was worried at first because the check engine light came on after I was finished and did some research, said it was probably because I didn't disconnect the battery before plugging out the door. In any case, after driving around for a bit the check engine light went away 👌 Thank you so much again for this video 😊
