I just wanna give you a big thanks. I am tearing into a 330 right now to make a repair video for my channel. And I could not figure out how to get the top half of the outer casing to clear everything to come off. 🤣 I did the twisting thing while pulling up and it just popped right off! This is my first time digging this far into a 330 so this is new territory for me. 😁 The saw I'm repairing was pulled from a big scrap hopper in a junkyard. My buddy climbed down into the hopper to grab it. 🤣 The handle is busted off, probably from being chucked into the hopper. It ran on 2 stroke fuel poured down the carb so I got the parts needed to repair it on eBay. Thanks again for the helpful video! I'll be sure to give you a shout-out in my video!

That covered mount brought back memories, lol! Haven't worked on those in close to 40 years, don't miss 'em either. When I saw what you were working on, I grabbed the popcorn.

My first time repairing chainsaws. I have a older Homelite 330 boot was shot so I ordered a new boot when I received it I thought it was cut to fit. Wish I had done my research and watched your video first =( Thank You for taking the time and showing us noobs how its done. Always worked on small engines never chainsaws this was my first.

You are the Man . 330’s are a nice compact package . I have 3 . It takes the right combination of language and jiggling to put that top back on. In my case heavy on the language

I own six of the 330 homelites, And every one of those saws had the same problem, An intake boot that had turned to black sticky goo! But the good thing about that is i can break down one of these and back together in no time! I keep reading the comments on this model of homelite and hearing all the sniveling guys are doing. I ran one of these ( In fact, I still have it ) 330 saws for a couple of years cutting some very large Douglas fir timber with it with minimal amount of problems! I think they sure as hell work as good if not better than anything you could purchase for under $500:00 dollars these days!

On my 330 changing the intake boot, (4 times) I've always struggled separating the top cover from the engine and tank. BUT the reassembly just slides right into place. I've not struggled like happened to you on this saw. I've never been able to figure out why it goes on so easily but comes off with so much difficulty. So likely in the factor during assembly it was a SNAP for them!

Nice video. Good to have on record for us 330 owners. I've owned my 330 since new. I've changed my intake boot out about four times in 40 years. You did a ring job on it a year or so ago! Still runs great. One time I was at our wooded property (an hour & a half away) to cut a cord of firewood when the boot cracked! I was only 1/4 cord in... What to do??? In the FIELD I had to do this repair on the tailgate of my truck but I had no replacement boot (I always carry a spare now). To field fix it, I used electrical tape wrapped around the boot a bunch of times. Finished my cord but it was acting up by the time I finished. Changed it out when I got home where I HAD a spare!

Any other saw of that era, wouldn't have to have the whole complete bench covered in parts to change a carb boot. I don't know why you guys are in love with these Homelites. I mean, some do run good, but when they don't, they're so much more frustrating to work on. I was going to say Homelite is the only saw you gotta pull the crank to get the carb off, but thought somebody would think I was serious. Lol Glad you're back Leon.

There's 2 different AV mounts for those, firm & a tad less. No idea why HL did that, never seen any other make do that. Glad to see someone else get a tad hot working on those.

I got a Homelite 330 that wouldn't run. I did a pressure test and the intake boot was leaking. I watched your video and enjoyed your step by step disassembly . I would have never figured out how to get to the boot. I rebuilt the carburetor and now I have a great running antique saw. I put 40:1 Mix in the tank. Is that the right mixture?

To get the oiler working good pull the hose from the tank use a syringe full of oil put a piece of fuel line on the syringe and hook it to the pump where the oil line from the tank holds up and is the syringe to squirt oil all the way through until it comes out the oil hole with the bar removed and this will force all the air out of the oil system and it works like a charm then hook your oil line from the tank back up and your in business. This method could work on other saws as well. Hope this helps someone because these are a pain to get oiling again.

Those are 1 of the most frustrating saws to work on. I always used to replace all the lines b/c my sense of humor wouldn't stand a repeat! Do believe I've got all new buffers & a boot for those. No one in this area uses these anymore.

Just remember this! If you're dealing with a sawdust in the case of the chainsaw your cutting with a dull chain! You should be making chips enstead of powder! And if possible, I take the bark off of the wood I'm cutting because as soon as you touch the chain to the bark it turns into powder as well! Making a mess out of your saw and coating the coil pick up until it won't send a good signal across the air gap between magnito and coil. 😊
