It is amazing how negligent these companies are. They make billions off oil, yet are too cheap to replace a critical pipe. from 1974. That they were flat out told was going to fail. If the justice system worked, companies like this would be sued out of existence. That one in Texas that killed a whole trailer of workers was horrid. And it was caused by systematic cost cutting, and tech that hadn't been updated since the 1950s.. I sure love gas cars, but I will be glad when the world goes electric. It would take 1 years worth of money the US sends out of the country to buy oil, to switch the entire US to renewable energy, but too many politicians are in the pocket of big oil...

The only reason places like this exist is because people want them. People want energy, gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, roads, plastics, etc. If people suddenly didn't drive cars and didn't fly or demand products shipped these places would shut down in a week. These placed didn't come about because some people decided they wanted to intentionally damage the environment.

There is so little poverty in the world (compared to most of the rest of history) because of cheap, abundant fossil fuels. Is it dangerous? Possibly? Are there benefits? Undoubtedly. Massive benefits, even to the poorest people on earth. Do a little cost/benefit analysis before you spout off again.
