Have a 305 F body, runs great. Problem is, it's buried in 20 miles of vacuum lines!

dump some sea foam down the carb while the engine is running and clean the valves to makes sure. Bad valves and seats don't heal themselves. Check for loose valve guides. Remove the rockers and see if the valves move back and forth. That can cause a valve not to seat right sometimes. The sea foam may help loosen stuck rings, too.

that cylinder is healthy,a cylinder needs at least 100 psi to run properly.

classic case of a hydraulic lifter malfunction it sometimes works fine sometimes not- just enough to cause confusion. I've seen engines that would spray oil out over the fender if you run it with the rocker cover removed I think your lifters are worn or at least clogged I would run some b12 chemtool in the oil for a while and see if the li8fters clear up

That's looking better. I think a couple good hard passes in front of the house will get it cleared up.

Lifters and push rods are supposed to spin. New lifters mate to the cam lob they are installed on. That's why you always want to install all new lifters and cam together on a flat tappet. If not the lifters will spin to fast or slow and you'll be putting a new cam and lifters in it in a couple of months.

Hello, thanks for the videos. I have a 82 Transam with a 305. I primed it using a priming tool and only got oil through the push rods on one head only. I would appreciate any help or suggestions that anyone might have on what the problem is.

put a dial indicator on the rocker at the stem. the #1 cylinder may have a lift issue.

The 305,and 350 have pretty weak stock valve springs.put new springs on,that oughta fix you're issue.their only like 3buck's each and oil seals are about 75cents.

Is it possible that the valves are out of adjustment just far enough that it seals when the engine is hot because of everything expanding and also the oil being warm making it thinner?

That's was a common 305 issue

Did you try a vacuum test?That too can highlight where the issue maybe coming from.

to adjust valve back off till clater1/4 turn down make sure push rod is turning put valve

You need to put some marvels mystery oil in it and hammer down sounds like it had a stuck ring.
