Zuluboy, Great Video, Fantastic Narration. Your Camaraman is excellent too! God Bless you sir, I wish you were here in NY, I would be a frequent customer, you are PROFESSIONAL AND METICULOUS. Love your style. Question, Should you have checked and removed the filler plug before removing the back cover? Kenny from Brooklyn
@zuluboymechanic24812 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I do appreciate your words. Yes you could remove the filler plug ( usually recommended) incase its seized and you don't have the right tools then you don't want to proceed with diff service at that point. I removed the cover as I was doing the major repairs and not worried about the plug

Nice video bro you do well showing in detail your work really helps understand what you doing 🙏🏾👍🏾. love my GMC safari I’m having the rear axle replaced seems the shop prefers that than trying to rebuild it it’s a 1998 and the axle assembly is coming from a 2000 Astro van checked the vin and it should fit. Thanks again keep up the good work!!
@zuluboymechanic24812 жыл бұрын
Good luck. Its easier replacing than rebuild for most tech..

@@zuluboymechanic2481 ok what would you do replace or rebuild?
@zuluboymechanic24812 жыл бұрын
@@knightryder5292 I guess it depends on the damages. If its just bearings then I will just change the bearings but if more than that then just put another diff assembly
@knightryder52922 жыл бұрын
@@zuluboymechanic2481 I had all the bearings inner and outer changed plus the right shaft . I originally took it in for a leak on the back seal shaft. After I drive it for a about 10 miles started hearing a vibration sounded like a plane so I took it back and they told me that the axle was no good 😌 I wonder if he forgot to fill it with oil after he replaced that seal ?? What you think? I mean shit happens 🙃 . I just want to fix it trying to stay positive!
@zuluboymechanic24812 жыл бұрын
@@knightryder5292 it sounds like its on the shop. The bearings could be overloaded during setting them. Possible bearings failed from poor installation. Axles hardly gets changed during dif rebuilds

Excellent work Brother..I have to perform the same procedure on my 2003 Chevy Astro..The only problem that I am faced with is:The differential fill plug is stripped beyond repair..So I bought a back plate with the plug on it..I just hope the bolts wont snap when I attempt to remove them...Wish me luck brother..

Gave you a like even before watching. Glad to see you pre-lube the bearing with some gear oil before inserting the axle. You are the first one I have seen do this when doing this bearing repair on an Astro. Just wondering if a bit heavier hammer on that slide tool would speed up the bearing removal.
@zuluboymechanic24812 жыл бұрын
That's how I do my bearings. Good catch. You can use a heavier hammer it should be fine. Good luck

I like your method and clear explanation. I am doing the same job but the axle will not fully insert into position. It feels like either the splines will not engage or the axle will not fit through the new bearing. Any suggestions for that?

I have a 1998 Astro and it’s making a weird vibration sound the mechanic says it’s in the rear end but it sounds like the middle of van ??
@zuluboymechanic24812 жыл бұрын
That could be a driveshaft/steady bearing..I would let him check it for you
