Excellent job. Just watched a 1AAuto video where they screwed the clip on backwards, and didn't bother to fix it even after complaints in the comments. I wonder how many people skip the comments and install that clip wrong and have all kinds of problems. And too many people rush the job and don't explain what to watch out for. You really did a great job and we all appreciate it.

this is how you do a video. you covered every little detail and theory of operation. i only have one question when the cable is pulled it moves the lever, the lever pushes a pin and pushes out against the one side of the shoe. so my question is: is only one side of the shoe pressed? does the shoe bend? i guess i have one more: are we expected to adjust this brake over time? i have never touched rear brakes thanks for the video.
@wtbm1234 жыл бұрын
The adjustment is only on one side , but both sides should move to apply the brake . Really not much wear , because nothing is rotating when applied so once adjusted it should stay that way unless someone drives with it on .
@williamglover78253 жыл бұрын
It is a great video. Thank You. As far as the little clips go, I do not put them back on anymore. I take two lug nuts and screw them backwards on two opposing studs. The flat sides of the nuts hold the rotor straight and allow the pads and caliper to go on easily. One other thing, depending on how clean your hands are or how easily the brake ring goes on, one may want to clean the braking surface on the shoe before putting the rotor on. I typically just spray some of the brake cleaner on a clean piece of folded paper towel and rub the surface. Thanks again for your help! .

Thx for the detailed explanation, followed it to a tee in my 2005 Jimmy, as the drivers side parking brake was stuck and car wasn't mobile. Took it all apart as you did, lubricated and put it all back. Worked great for a day - but next day it was cold and once again it got stuck. Later in the day it warmed up a bit and it came loose on its own. Not sure what's going on, I cleaned everything. Only happens when temps fall below -4C. Any ideas before I take it all apart again? For now I'm not applying the parking brake in fear I won't be able to drive it. Many thanks for posting this valuable vid.
@wtbm1239 жыл бұрын
+Slakass55 Could be moisture , freezing the shoe to drum , or could be cable , would need to check cable and verify it to be good , and make sure no water is getting inside drum and freezing . So the only way of knowing for sure is to see what is sticking , if cable is releasing then it has to be in wheel , and if all the moving parts are not worn ,clean , and lubed then prob in shoe , whether it gets hung up on something or lining is sticking to shoe .
@Slakass559 жыл бұрын
+wtbm123 Wtbm TY for the reply. I suspect you may be right that it may be the shoe sticking to the drum, as I had played with the cable and it seemed to be moving. I even tried banging on the pin (where cable connects and feeds into the wheel) and it wouldn't budge much, not enough to release the wheel. If indeed the issue is with the shoe freezing inside the wheel, how can this be addressed? Is there something that could be sprayed on that would keep moisture out but not interfere with the braking action? Will be warm in a few days and would like to take it all apart again and hopefully address this for once and all. Appreciate the quick feedback.

They have replacements for the boots now from Doorman I think. But the full race version that I use are the Tommee Tippee clear silicone baby bottle nipples. Medium flow, anti colic. The lever arm and barrel are at the low point of the vehicle with a cable leading to it. The barrel gets filled with water and parties over. Guys pack it full of grease and it doesn’t help much . A new original seal sucks ass, and lasts about three days. It’s just paper thin. I wouldn’t use sand paper. They make brake cylinder hones that are cheap and easy to use with a drill.

I know it's the same procedure for a ZR2 P/U but is the rotor the same? The ZR2 has the 8.5 rearend and I believe is 4" wider...I had rear rotors & pads replaced less than a year ago at a major tire chain by a friend who works there and I can trust, and I only drive the truck 1x-2x per week, maybe less than 1000 miles, and rotors/pads and e-brake are all shot & grinding...didn't pull a wheel yet but pulled pieces from between what may have been the backing plate & rotor--probably rusted e-brake.

Without seeing it is hard to say why the brakes didn't last long, Could be the type of pads or could be a slide or caliper sticking or a number of other things. More than likely it is the same design, Not sure if all the rotors are the same ,I just look them up by the application. The parking brake would need the rotor taken off ,I would think before you could tell the condition of the shoes.The backing plate should be blocking the view to see in there..
