Chevy Cruze Stalling: Crank No Start

In this video, I show you how to diagnose a Chevy Cruze that is stalling or has a crank no-start condition. Many times this problem can be caused by a bad crank sensor, fuel pump, or in this case, it was a poor connection at the ignition coil. So I'll show you how to test that too.
If your Chevy Cruze is having trouble starting, you're not alone. In fact, this is a pretty common problem for Cruze owners. There are a few different things that can cause your Cruze to stall, and in this video, we'll go over some of the most common causes and what you can do to fix them.

What we ended up finding wrong with this Chevy Cruze! It was not the crank sensor. It ended up being a bad connection at the ignition coil. I wiggled the connection and the car stalled a number of times. I removed the connection, cleaned it with contact cleaner, and made sure all terminals were tight, and that fixed this car.

Holy shit thank you, my car stalled currently waiting for a tow and I read this comment wiggled the coil pack harness and it cranked first try.

I replaced mine after the lock clip broke off. It was a pain. Each pin has a tab on top and bottom. One wire at a time. Fixed.

I have a 2016 Chevy Cruze in my car is doing the same thing I sprayed the wires that's connected to the coil pack and it started right up stalled out today again clean that really good it still seems to continue

I would never have thought crank sensor. I had one go out on my vehicle twice and it sputtered and sputted multiple times before it died. Never did it just shut down like someone turned off the key. I'm glad you found it. I never would have even looked at the ignition coil. Curios, how did you find the issue?

Well, when all else fails I turn to the wiggle and tap test. Wiggling harnesses and tapping on modules.

Thank you!! Fighting this all day. Watched your video then read your comment on the fix. Got out and tapped on the coil pack and Bam there it was. All fixed now, Thank you! P.S. Yes, they are a piece of crap 💩.

Unfortunately I didn’t find the pinned comment before I got a tow dispatched. Reseated the coil pack harness and that fixed it and started right up. Currently still waiting on my free tow

Mine is doing the same thing! I just paid over $1000 for coil and spark plugs replacement, and it had also had bad gas which needed to be drained out. I don't have any money left to fix whatever this issue is with stalling! It will stall when I try to start it again after a 30-40 minute drive running errands, then I'm done with the errands in about 20 minutes back out to the car and it'll stall immediately trying to start again. It seems like it could be something where it's too hot.

My advice is take to your technician make sure they drive the car while checking for the problem if you leave the car standing and turned on it won't show the problem. I had to drive the car with mechanic checking his scanner to find the problem. My problem was in the harness if you car overheats and had this issue as well lits likely the coolant corroded part of the electrical hardness or so the mechanic says but car works now.

I have this problem currently. My ignition coil pack was messed with and the crankshaft sensors got replaced and still can not get the car to start. It won't even turn over at this point at all.

I changed my water outlet, on my 2016 Chevy Cruze LT 1.4 turbo, and turned it on got it up to normal temperature, drove it around and satisfied with the results, I parked it for a few minutes and tried to start it again and got only cranking but no turning on… any ideas of why it did that? Any assistance would greatly be appreciated.

My 2012 Cruze done the same thing a couple of weeks ago and it’s still in the garage waiting for the mechanic to fix it but they already hooked up their computer up to it and I think it said crankshaft sensor bad so im still waiting for my turn in line at this little shop to get it changed hoped this helps you out have a good day🚗

Replace the purge valve also. They are known for issues.

I’d check the mass flow air sensor. Unplug it, it may stall, but should crank on 2nd or 3rd try. Engine will run rough because it’s in default. After running for 2min, plug MAFS back up, if it shuts off, replace the MAFS or clean it thoroughly. They are cheap, so I’d just replace it.

I changed the oil on 2011 cruze started up checkmoil level drove it out the garage parked on the driveway next day its a No start😭😭

I rebuilt the engine 2 weeks ago. It's started and run to operating. Tempted diagnoit will not restart. Impression is around 70 pounds. Compression. Well, the Turbo calls it.

I just bought a 2014 Chevy Cruz, I think it's a pos! Drives fine on highway..but in town ANYTIME I AM AT IDLE SPEED IT WANTS TO DIE. Yep... paid 4k to replace turbo system. Got half way home and it started rev locking on me. Took it back to then be told it's the PCV needs replacing and that's what would have caused the turbo failure and it would be another 4k to replace it 🤬🤬 I told them to stick it and ended up modifying with different valves and hose. Cost approximately $150
