Step-by-step guide on how to remove / replace / change factory stereo on Chevrolet Equinox SUV ( 2010 | 2011 | 2012 | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 | LS | LT | LTZ ).
You might want to replace the factory radio in case you are replacing with the aftermarket entertainment station or if radio failed. If you want to be extra careful it is a smart idea to disconnect the battery before starting this work.
To start first remove two 7mm screws holding the storage compartment on top of the dashboard. Then remove the storage compartment. Now pop out silver trim piece that surrounds the radio. It will be held by 10 plastic tabs. Disconnect two electrical connectors behind it. Pop out plastic trim pieces on the sides of the dashboard. Then remove four 7mm screws holding the cd player cover. This will get you access to the radio. Remove additional two 7mm screws holding the plastic dash piece above the radio to get enough space to pull out the stereo. Pull the radio out and disconnect radio antenna and all power cords.
In case you are replacing factory radio with another used factory radio make sure to get the radio code as if you don't have one you might have to contact Chevrolet Dealer to get and code and pay for it.
If replacing with aftermarket radio make sure to get the proper wiring harness and radio kit for Chevy Equinox.
