If you’re going to beat the axle, put the nut back on flush with the end so u don’t mess the threads up

This is a soft blow , so no harm. But yes, that is good practice.

Great Video man!! About to do my 1st GM Frt hub on a young single girls Malibu. Mech quoted her $450 to do this! Much Appreciate the info. Looks pretty straight forward and only corrosion will cause issues. I have a large 2 jaw puller I may try to push that axle off the hub... or hub off the axle shaft.

Thanks man. and good luck on the job. Always nice if you can help someone save some money lol.

I'm about to do mine now. Should be a huge savings over taking it to a shop. Great video!

Just a heads up for anyone else out there getting ready to do this... He said his axle nut takes a 35mm deep socket, however mine takes a 36mm. Also the axle nuts are apparently designed to "crimp" onto the spindle when torqued to spec and a new one only costs around 6 bucks. Also, the torque specs are 85 ft/lbs for the 3 hub mount bolts. And 159 ft/lbs for the axle nut. Idk how much it may very by year and whatnot but the info I provided is for an 06 Malibu LT, 3.5L. Also, something valuable I learned while working on said malibu is that the 8th character of your VIN is your 'engine code' and can be used to help you find the correct parts for your specific vehicle. For example my engine code is: 8. Which represents a 3.5L, RPO LX9. Good luck✌🏼

@@hyr0llr I just edited for clarification! I was just out in the garage replacing my bearings and put it on backwards. I figured things out, just took a while. Your video was very helpful, thanks!

That rotor looks like a problem on the inside I believe the front brakes may be a problem as well 😳
@hyr0llr3 жыл бұрын
yeah they were bad for sure. i cant remember if i replaced them after this. videos a few years old.

I have the same car replaced the rotor an caliper and brakes on the front but I drive for a while and the whole wheel gets hot and smells. Could this be the wheel bearing or the brake hose? Great Video btw
@hyr0llr5 жыл бұрын
i would assume it is the wheel bearing if you replaced the calipers. Did you put fresh grease on the slide pins on the caliper bracket?
@jeremygarcia55202 жыл бұрын
@@hyr0llr 3 years later and I KZbin wheel bearing found your responded. It turned out to be the brake hose that runs to the line.
@shawniethomas29213 жыл бұрын
where did you get the new wheel bearing, becuz im looking for that for my 2015 malibu
@hyr0llr3 жыл бұрын
honestly, i dont remember where i got these since it was long ago, probably the autozone/advance auto judging by the box. But if you arent in a rush, i just ordering online from rockauto. You can find the same brands that the stores carry for cheaper
@adhdlivingyourdreams95154 жыл бұрын
Hey what are the differences in steps back to front bearing changes?
@hyr0llr4 жыл бұрын
i would assume it is easier in the rear since there is no axle. but i have no hands on experience with the rears.

How do you know when they are bad?
@hyr0llr5 жыл бұрын
usually makes a humming or grinding(if really bad) that matches the speed of the car

@@hyr0llr sounds like an airplane. Matches speed of the car.
@hyr0llr5 жыл бұрын
@@williamtustin4490 lol like a loud whistle? never heard that. but if coming from your wheels than it probably is the wheel bearing. check to pads and rotors first making sure its not draggin.

you can not crossthread something while taking out as you say.
