On installing the rubber isolator, I just put it where it goes on the top of the spring and wrapped some electrical tape around it and the spring in 3 different spots. Always worked for me.

Appreciate the video. Question: When uncompressed, the old and new spring appear to be the same length. When you dropped the lower control arm, the old spring had no tension and you were just able to pull it out. Couldn't you have just put the new spring in there and jacked up the lower arm without using the spring compressor?
@NavyDad10 ай бұрын
Hi the old spring were worn out V6 springs with about 220K miles on them. The new springs are bigblock 454 very hard to compress. What you can't see is the thickness of the steel coil its much thicker than the V6 spring.

Could i get a link to the springs your using and or possibly do you know if those springs work with the k1500 i want to retain factory height or avoid having to lift more than one inch
@NavyDad9 ай бұрын
I have not worked on a GMT400 k1500 in a long time but as I remember the front suspension is completely different, the spring parches are outside the frame I think,

I want to see the diferent height with the new coil springs!!
@NavyDad2 жыл бұрын
The physical length of the springs is the same old V6 and New BB. These are not lowering springs. I have 2” Belltech drop spindles. After the 454 is installed they “should” ride at the same height as before. 4” drop in the back and 2” in the front. I’m not going any lower than that as I still use it to haul stuff

What about the transmission? And rear differential? And rear springs or leaves? Do you replace all of them for the big block?
@NavyDad Жыл бұрын
yes if swapping to a 454 a stock 4L60 will not last long I bought my 454 and a 4l80e together. yes I'll be replacing the rearend. mine was a 3:42 going with a 3:73 and will swap in a Yukon posi, should be fine mine its not a high horsepower build. the rear springs are the same. none of the GMT400s has a true posi axle the G80 was not a real positrack it was a low speed locker manly for wheeling The SS 454 had a one-off rear axle it was a 14 bolt 5 lug G80 in 3:73 with optional 4:10 if you can find one buy it they were pretty good for a stock setup but very hard to find and $$

Man I wish I would have known about that spring compressor you have back in 2019 when I did my front end. I had a helluva time I tried using that lil weak claw spring compressor and it was scary so I didn’t use it. I finally just bolted my lower control arm on to the spindle, slid the springs in then put my jack under the lower control arm and compressed the spring using the jack and lower control arm but anyway do you wanna sell those rally wheels? I been looking for some and I’m in Tx
@NavyDad2 жыл бұрын
I sold the wheels 2yrs ago that was just the spare. Yeah the jack trick worked fine for the old V6 springs, I tried to compress the new bigblock springs with the jack and it just lifted the whole truck up even with the V6 still in it, so had to use the compressor.

What springs did you use? Are they from a factory 454ss pickup? Link? Thanks
@NavyDad2 жыл бұрын
At the time I bought them springs were hard to find. I could not find stock 454SS springs anywhere, could only find lowering springs. I already had 2" Belltech lowing spindles and I don't want to go any lower than that, I still use it as a "truck". I went with Precision Springs Part #SP08283 at www.oreillyauto.com/ they are a progressive spring and should work great. I have the engine/trans in the truck now and looks like it will sit right after everything else is back on. However, if you are not using drop spindles, I'd suggested Belltech lowering 2-3" Part #23452 easy to find for about $200
