I guess Zach just forgot to mention it, that this change also works the other way around. If you start experiencing vibration over time, mostly through the seats while even sitting still at the light in neutral, it's almost certain your mounts are shot to bits. It gets worse if they are oil filled or hydraulic ones. They progressively worsen. Changing them with new brings back the comfort. And always change them all at the same time, don't try to cheap out by just changing one - this will really bite you in the ass. It's like changing the brake calipers only on one side of the car.

Great fix. And great note about avoiding cross-threading. I've found the best way to ensure thread match is to set up the fastener as if I'm ready to tighten (with forward pressure), slowly turn in the direction of loosen until I feel the click, and then turn to tighten. Most nuts & bolts can be blind-aligned this way with little hassle.

@bc57064 жыл бұрын
@@theuselessknight6021 In fact, the biggest culprit causing that error would be the swivel socket. It greatly reduces transmitted torque with increasing angle --> T*cos(a). If we guesstimated the angle at which he was torquing to be 45°, he would've been below required torque by about 25%.

Essentially stock rubber mounts, but slightly stiffer. Sounds perfect to me.

He ain't lifting an f350 here.. pretty sure he's fine lifting a miata with any harbor freight jack stands, plus it's only for the "paw" to fail, the stand will still hold the vehicle.

Your bolts lined up so much easier than mine. I have an 01. Using stock mounts I had to detach the bracket from block on drivers side. Bolted the mount to frame on drivers side. Lower engine until passenger side was lined up, then make tiny adjustments w/ jack until I could get engine to line up on drivers side and bolt bracket to block. Big improvement, I went with the mazda comp mounts.

I just rebuilt the entire front end of my car, need to replace the rear motor mount and the front strut tower brace. Super fun project, learned alot, took about 4 days now I'm just waiting for a chance to adjust the suspension to the right ride height and dampening and I'll be set. The PMM alone made a noticable difference as the oem one was totally shot

Replaced my engine mounts and a couple of other stuff on my car and it really improved the car a lot as the OEM ones allowed the engine to move a lot. So now Im one step closer to be done with my GT build :D Love all content you at Donut Media upload, really made my days a lot more fun and my motivation to peek!

You;re so right about the change of feeling. I concedentally had to swap 2 of the 3 engine mounts in my car a few weeks ago. It's 20 years old and i got oil all over the mounts because i;m an idiot. I got the new ones in and it feels so much tighter i'm amazed it can feel like that. The mounts were already off when i got it so i never experienced it like that. Even the cluth and shifter feel more precise.

You gotta wonder if the aftermarket mounts could be improved to suck some noise while making the connection more rigid. Good series, been watching all of the episodes in a row after finding it and learning some key elements about car build.
@JupiterxBlues Жыл бұрын
2 years late but I had an idea that I have yet to see anyone do(correct me if im wrong though). Its hard to describe but i'll try. Use some very large and soft mounts to absorb as much vibration as possible. Then have a polyurethane or steel rod inside the rubber mount that barely touches the engine. Then, using a tiny motor and a very high torque gear ratio, move the rod up to press against the engine harder. This could be controlled in the car so that when you cruise, you can have a soft ride, and when you want to go "sport mode" you can press a button. I always wondered why cars haven't implemented this yet.
