Great work. I like how you filled the gap with copper wire.

Whatever works! Yeah, they wanted $1200 on mine, too. Fixed it ten months ago with a tin can and four hose clamps.

I used JB weld high heat putty to repair this on my Maxima. Lasted for 3 months and got me through a state inspection.

30 years ago auto parts shops sold kits for this problem one end fit over the broken side. The other end had the matching flange to bolt to. Line up your parts slowly tighten and get the lager OD pipe drawn toward the flanges. Torque the flanges bolts and add a exhaust clamp around the connection of the kit pipe and the broken original pipe. Measure often cut once and drive away quietly.

Why not just chop both flanges off and put a small flex pipe over it with clamps? Cost about the same and will actually last.
@stevenrivers51682 жыл бұрын
Because the main side is fine so its a temporary fix before putting on the actual parts
@3613jeremy Жыл бұрын
Ya I would have done a replacement flange it would have been almost as cheap and a lot easier just slide it over the manifold pipe weld it or clamp it on and it would last longer then this jb weld job

You are right. That's the way to go. Just hack the shit off. Thanks for the suggestion.

Haha this is apparently such a common failure that no auto makers have addressed with proper anti corrosion coating at the muffler inlet flange weld. Just took mine in to get welded since it is on a relatively newer vehicle (2011 outlander) and dont want any future leaks from a new split flange joint
@Velocity11183 жыл бұрын
Why not just cut the flange off all together and put a length of pipe in there with 2 muffler clamps?
@dannynica74803 жыл бұрын
you know why?? because if you need later on a middle pipe, then you would have to cut the new put and do this again, if you dont cut it like you say, then you just have those two bolts and just connect the new one
@Bri-2542 жыл бұрын
Get a grinder with a cutting disc to cut the pipe, Lot quicker than a hacksaw.

Next time you could try a split repair flange they are cheap and will grab onto the pipe so you wouldn't have to JB weld it.

I don't think this was a good repair and i don't know why you drilled the pipe and left copper wire inside the pipe. Why didn't you just form it and drive it in like packing? That aside, considering your time and expense, you could have simply had a local welder weld it properly for a few bucks. This repair made no sense for a variety of reasons.

All that shit you brought for repairs, grease, ,paint, etc. You could've got a whole new muffler system for $80.00 🤡
