It seems like a simple fix, but the cabling route was a pain. Your tutorial probably saved me hours of frustration. Thank you for the post.

I've done this wiring harness replacement before. I'm about to do it again. It's a pain but this video should simplify the process. Thanks, Mike.

Great video. Passnger side headlight wouldn’t work at all. Fixed it in about 20 mins

I wouldn't have had any idea how to do this without your video. Thank You! I was successful at replacing the harness. The turn signal sockets were difficult to get out and one connector, but probably to be expected on a 10 year old truck. Thanks again.

Top Ds wire barely had a connection , i had to push it back in to make it work, it finally broke..purchased a new harness and now the light doesnt work at all..with new bulbs. Can you help me?
@mikesdoityourself
@mikesdoityourself Жыл бұрын
It could be a loose or broken connection somewhere. I would take the bulbs out and check for voltage at the bulb plugs. Sometimes, even with new harnesses, the wire connectors push out of the plugs. I would go back and recheck all the harness connections, also. If you're not getting any lights, I would check the fuse for the headlights. It may have blown the fuse due to a loose connection. The only other possibility is a weak battery. Hopefully, it's one of these issues. - Mike

So what u replace was a wire harness. I might have to do rhe same cause my driver side headlight keeps turning off. I saw that an exposed wire was forming at where it connects to the headlight bulb low beam.

I still have issues with both sides driver and passenger low beams. The go off on come back on. I just replace the single pigtails on each side, but same problem. Where did u get your DOORMAN harness from ? I ordered a harness from Amazon and low beam burnt up on me.

It sounds like it might be the harnesses. They were purchased from Rockauto.com. They should be available from local auto parts stores, also. Good luck with your project!- Mike

My headlight keeps going out. If I wiggle the pigtail it comes back on, sometimes for a few minutes sometimes for a few hours. Already replaced the pigtail. My mechanic recommended to try LEDs but I was curious if I should try replacing the harness.
@mikesdoityourself
@mikesdoityourself 2 жыл бұрын
I would change the harness, LEDs shouldn't make a difference- you'll still have same voltage potential in the wires. Your amperage/wattage may vary with different LEDs. It sounds like you have weak, thin, broken or corroded wiring leading to your headlamp that fails when the wiring heats up. Also, I would take a look at the headlamp filament to see if there's any dark spots or issues with it. Good luck with your project!- Mike

@@mikesdoityourself thanks man that makes more sense to me also. My mechanic was telling me that LEDs don't get as hot but I think I'll try the harness first

If i do the driver side, would it be best to do passenger as well? Drivers side is the one that seems to encounter this issue. Low beam will be off, I move the back connector wires around and it turns on...
@mikesdoityourself
@mikesdoityourself Жыл бұрын
It would be a good idea because you have the same age wiring on both sides even if you don't have issues with the passenger side yet. Otherwise, just wait till you have an issue- I think the passenger side was easier to do just because you can remove the battery to give yourself more room to work. Good luck with your project!- Mike

I've got a dead high beam, left side. replaced the bulb, wiring harness, all fuses related to headlights, checked wires for continuity and they pass. any ideas? I'm really at a loss with this one...

Could be one of the connectors popped out of the wiring harness end when plugging it into the bulb- that happened to me. Another possibility is that the bulb is bad from wherever it was purchased from. The switch may be an issue if both high beams aren't working. Good luck! - Mike

My left headlight works in the winter, does not work above 40 degrees. Constantly going through bulbs as well. Both regular and LED's. Was at the point both went out. Original owner had the same problem not too long after new. Is the harness the issue in these? Because If you look at Sliverados coming at you on the road, 50% will have a headlight out....at least in my area.

Sounds like a corrosion of the wiring harness or wire gauge issue- definitely sounds like a wiring harness change would fix it- I would check your grounds for the harnesses if they are easy to get to and check. Bad grounds can possibly cause these issues also. Good luck with your project! - Mike

@@mikesdoityourself My passenger side low beam kept going out got fed up so got new assembly and harness replaced and very next day started doing same thing again .After I read some probs. on here sounds the same but what else could it be ? @@michaelclary6771 If you have replaced headlight assembly wiring already and are sure when you plug in your bulbs that the connectors are solid and not pushing out, I would check any grounds you can find related to the system and check for corrosion or loose connections. I would check the fuse and check for corrosion or a loose fuse. Sometimes, a weak main battery, alternator, or charging system issues can give people lighting problems. I would check for proper voltage at your headlamp bulb end and at the fuse with the headlight on, wiggle as many wires related to the headlamp wiring as possible, check for intermittent readings that could pinpoint a loose connection, corrosion, etc. With wiring sections disconnected from power, I would check resistance (ohms) of these wiring sections. Low resistance (good), high resistance (bad). Lastly, it could be the switch, knob or controller of the headlamp so that is a possibility, also. Good luck with your project!- Mike

@mikesdoityourself
@mikesdoityourself 3 жыл бұрын
I would check voltage along the wiring harness if you have a multimeter. I've had the wiring that's been bad (maybe an open in the wiring)(the heat generated in the wiring close to the bulb makes it go bad after awhile)(you can shake the wires to try to get it to work) and I've had the wire lead pushed out of the connector when plugging in the bulb. Make sure your ground is secure also if it is isolated for the low beam. Good luck! - Mike
