Good video man I watched two others and I don't think the guys had done the job before your video was by far the most helpful However how about the pitman arm replacement I don't think you can do it the same way you did the idler arm

Thanks i appreciate it! think its possible but you will need a bigger puller
@XJlover90

You have to unbolt the steering box and wiggle into where you can get the puller on. Make sure you mark on the steering box and old pitman where it is and secure the steering wheel before removing old pitman. So when you put the new one on everything is still in alignment.

👌bro, the threads you count are the ones inside the outer tie rod end but not whats outside on the inner one - the reason for that is very logical; each manufacturer has its own interpretation on how much goes outside (that is not a standard) and you really dont need to measure it, but equally important is how much goes inside the outer one (that is a standard) remember that 👍

There is a similar tool to this one I found online… the only difference is that there are bolts across the opening that keep the tool from bending and flexing… it works awesome!

If idler and idler arm are both being replaced, can you install the idler arm on the idler outside the truck and then installed the assembly together??

Old comment, but yes you can remove the arm with the bracket together and you can buy a new arm and bracket and install them together outside of the truck and put them in the truck as one piece. Makes it way easier than him not buying the bracket in the video

hey there bro, great video! I learned a lot. My 2002 silverado 2WD has a problem when turning left at a slower speed. When turning ...all of a sudden front right tire I think is a little slow on the turn as it wants to keep going right which means I have to turn the steering wheel a little more to keep on the road. Not as bad when turning right.. Grateful for any idea what It would be or what to check... I still haven't found a video that explains what I am experiencing. Something is definitely worn. Vehicle has 338,000 miles.Thank you in advance for any help and advice

Check your ball joints, upper, lowers, tie rod ends and check your pitman arm. Check ur computer for codes related to ABS sensors, could have bad wheel hub assembly or abs module. If all is good then just get an alignment. Does your brake sputter? Could have bad brakes.

I just wish ONE person would describe the symptoms as to why they replaced the idler arm. I have some 9 and 3'oclock movement (hand placement location on the front tire while on the lift). I just changed both inner and outer tie rods. It helped some, but not completely. Why are people changing pitman and idle arms? Videos are great, but what PROBLEM is being solved??

And idler arm going bad is a classic steering problem.You definitely get play in your steering when they go out and its fairly common for them to go bad.
@893-m8w
@893-m8w 3 жыл бұрын
Bad idler arms can cause vibration and steering play, an idler arm with bracket is like $80 and a 45 minute job on GMT800, if in doubt just replace them You might also have pitman arm play as well

Wtf you did the idler arm and not the pitman arm, also it's completely pointless the change the idler arm without the bracket and makes it 10 times harder. If you remove the idler arm with the bracket together, then buy both of them and install them together outside of the truck then install them together it's a 45 minute job if that
@ricktaylor3748

I don't see the point. You reused the tie rod end, which is the part that wears out. You should replace the whole part. You can find the parts cheaper on eBay. You also need better tools. A clawhammer isn't suited for beating steal parts. Take my word. Buy yourself a 34 mm ratchet wrench for removing the pitman arm from the steering box. Do NOT heat the steering box pitman arm. It will destroy the seal in the steering box.
