Hi there, wanted to say thank you for posting this video. I have to replace my radiator and removing the bumper fascia is one of the requirements. Probably the hardest requirement of the entire project. I almost took my car to a mechanic until I saw your video. Thanks to your video post, I now have the confidence to do it myself. I’ll be doing it later this week while the temps are still good here in the northeast. Waiting on the radiator to arrive. Hi. I don’t have the service manual for the 2017+ Sonic, BUT I can tell you from some hands-on the bolt and screw locations and count are nearly identical. If you look at the video closely during the undercarriage and engine bay portions you’ll be able to determine what hardware matches that of the 2017. Yes, you’ll need to remove the bumper to access the lower mounting hardware of the headlights. The part below the lights act as an additional securement point for the bumper.

One question though. Do I have to remove the bumper in order to the the chrome fog light bezels off or can I remove them without taking the whole bumper off?

Lawrence Cayetano Hi glad you liked the video. So there are two ways to access the rear of the fog light assemblies, which gives you bezel removal access. 1) by undoing the front wheel-well liner, moving the liner to the side, and going in through there. 2) removing the entire front bumper. You’re in luck though. One of the steps before removing the entire bumper is undoing the wheel-well liner. I’d recommend doing the liner first, and if you can’t easily access the fogs, continue with the entire front bumper removal.

I would only replace the thermostat and cap if they are broken, unless they are super cheap, then why not. Unfortunately I don’t know the exact answer to your question. The repair manual is a little confusing. The listed steps don’t mention the intercooler at all, but the photos show it removed prior to pulling the radiator out. I’ll reach out to a mechanic friend of mine and see if he has an answer.

dakota47v8 So the intercooler will need to come off because it is attached to the lower part of the radiator. Luckily it’s held on with only 2 10mm screws, and the hose clamps at both sides. My friend did mention removing the metal bumper to make the job a little easier, but it’s not required. Hope all this helps.

DIY Toona is it hard to remove metal bumper? Do you remember how many bolts and nuts to remove??

Hi Sam. I do not, but it’s pretty easy. First remove the front bumper (that I do have a video of) then the headlamp is 4 screws and the electrical connector in the back. See this diagram. www.csmans.com/headlamp_replacement-802.html

Hi again and thank you for your reply ... today I'm sad to report I must replace the (Radiator) on my 2014 1.4 turbo Rs.. PLEASE HELP I cannot afford to send it to dealer but If it's possible to remove the radiator without having to disconnect the a/c or have to evacuate the freon Can this be done ? dakota47v8 Hey, yeah I’ll help as best I can. Good news is you don’t need to evac or remove the AC, just pull the condenser assembly forward of the radiator. You will need to remove the bumper fascia (like I did in this video) but not the metal number crash bar. Check out this website for a list of steps www.csmans.com/radiator_replacement_luv_-2084.html

Yes you do. The front bumper locks into the lower part of the headlight assembly, keeping the headlight in place until the bumper is removed.

Thanks for the question. No, it does not come pre-wired. The fog light controller starts at the headlamp control panel. On vehicles with fog lights, the rotating knob has an added action of being a push-button to turn on the fog lights. The command wire is missing from the harness on non-fog models.

Hi wondering if you could help me please I have a 2014 chevy sonic rs turbo is the air intercooler behind the bumper at the bottom right in the front behind the lower grill? Also i heard ppl who have put in cold air intakes should remove the snorkel bc it doesn't allow a free flow of ambeiant air as behind the bumper on the passenger front side Chevy has a small curved plastic air duct that if removed could provide better air flow without restrictions. What say you .. thank u Tim

dakota47v8 Hi thanks for the questions. You’re correct. The intercooler for the turbo is the smaller heat exchanger in the lower portion behind the front bumper fascia. If you are installing a conical air intake the snorkel doesn’t really need to be removed. The conical filter will draw air in from all around the old filter box, but primarily from where the snorkel is router. It won’t change the level of sound you hear under the hood as the new filter pulls in much more air. If you plan on tuning the vehicle, then removing the snorkel would further reduce airflow restrictions.

Very good question. After having done it once before, yes, because I had a better idea of where they were. But it’s rather hard to see exactly where they are without shining a flashlight between the panel gap, which I now recommend.

@@GForceSS No problem! Keep in mind you’re pushing the tabs down that exist on the vehicle side, not the bumper side. The bumper just has rectangle cutouts the tabs lock into. So if anything, it’s better to break the car side tabs and replace that bracket that pop-rivets to the frame. The bumper-side cutouts are part of the whole bumper. Not replaceable, and very hard to fix. Unless you’re good with composite materials (mine are reinforced with two layers of carbon fiber lol)

Blue Green All those pieces come out with a series of attachment screws and push tabs. You can definitely remove them and put them on the new bumper.

They only hold on the Front Bumper Fascia Opening Lower Cover. Arguably not the most crucial piece. it’s designed to direct airflow more consistently through the radiator and intercooler, also prevent damage and corrosion from debris off the road...kinda like a splash guard.

Steven Switters The horn harness is located on the driver’s side for the RS and the passenger side for all other trim levels. In both cases the horn itself is mounted on the side of the large crash bar.

The lower grill for an RS has a GM part number of 95270708. The non-RS with the “mustache” is 95227395. Just search those and you’ll find some websites that sell them. If you want something custom look up Beastlick Designs.
