The point of contact to spin the flywheel is the same that’s why they are a little thicker

I just found out i have a 14" flywheel i never saw the original starter the one i swapped out was an 11ooth so i went back with that NOW not knowing about this i need a 9tooth starter. With the bigger diameter the bendix extends and locksup in the flywheel will not retract until i rotate the engine with a wrench. thanks sam

It doesn't matter how many teeth it has, they will work the same, i actually use a factory style starter from a 06 Chevy 8100 on my 99 350, my 94 350 and my 72 C-10 with a 396, stagger bolt pattern, both bolts same lenth, just make sure to the bolts for the right one

@@SamsAutomotiveSThanks sam, I just found out that 168 tooth starter for big block the same flywheel was put on 350's as well "i didnt know that" so i went to the parts store and they gave me a starter for a chevy 350- now thinking it would work it didnt it just locked up even though its a high torque starter but its for a 153 tooth flywheel - what ive learned again is 168tooth flywheel =9tooth starter / 153 tooth flywheel =11 tooth starter, Thank you for the video and the input mr.sam

I thank you for this info. So I assume that if it should of been 9 tooth and you put in a 11 it would crack the nose of. I'm having this very issue with a 96 chevy Silverado.
