Lol u did way too much extra work...u literally remove the heat shield on passenger side of trans...drop pan n rotate front of pan towards drivers side n it comes right out

Nothing needed for a simple filter and fluid change

I know this may sound stupid, but can you possibly use the old pan and show the steps in adding the plug to the pan? and where you got the plug from? thank you.

Here’s a video of building up the new OEM pan used in this video. Only additional steps had I used the original OEM pan would be a lot of cleaning/prep work to be able to weld & paint the part. With the new pan coming in at $18 it just made more sense to start with a new one (also allowed me a quick install vs waiting on paint to dry). kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYTSmmhpZbd5oac

I don’t plan to buy one, so development is in the hands of the community. I asked Paul from DAP (local) & Humble Mechanic (local-ish) & neither even bothered to reply.

Natuarrly if your jacking the transmission off the crossmemember for additional clearance for the pan to clear it does absolutely no good as the engine and exhaust moves with the trans

It literally gave me the fraction of a inch I needed. There’s enough of defection in 6’ lengths of thin wall tubing to save breaking off decade old manifold studs

Good video but the filling part is confusing pan capacity (initial fill) with total capacity (entire amount of transmission fluid in the system). Granted the pan amount will vary with temperature, but how you explained it sounded like you were adding 6 quarts x 2 which is obviously not correct. Just wanted to point that out.

I’d have to watch my own video to see what you’re talking about, but at the end of the day follow the manual for your particular truck. Mine having the tow package has a big external transmission cooler not every truck is going to have, so your results may vary.

Great video thanks! Does jacking up the transmission that high cause any other potential issues? My worry is possibly damaging the bell housing, drive shafts, transfer case or something else when jacking up the transmission from that spot. I need to do this on my Quigley 4x4 2500 express van. Appreciate your help!

The correct way would be to unbolt the exhaust, but that risks breaking studs. If you do go that route spray them with penetrating oil and let it soak 45 minutes, then use heat and get the nuts glowing hot before breaking them loose (otherwise they’re going to seize and snap off)

Dude I thought the same. I ended up using a pry bar between the exhaust and that big black bar. Pulled the exhaust down a big and boom clearance.

Everything seems louder inside a metal building, but I’m guessing my foot wasn’t on the brake going N - D. Not whatever you’re implying, it’s silent in normal circumstances.

Since you mentioned this I’ve been paying attention. It seems to shift hard during cold start high idle (inadvertently running higher line pressure than the lower normal idle). Once my truck is fully up to temperature it’s silent dropping into whatever gear I’ve selected.

When it’s at operating temp, what’s the level read on the dipstick. I have a 2017 Silverado and the thing is so sensitive if it’s not in the right spot, too much or too little, the trans acts terrible. I’ve played around with it got it a lot better but still not perfect

It’s in range on mine, no issues to speak of. I have a Diablo program on the ECU & TCU, the TCU I set line pressure to one step higher than stock so it does shift firm. I pull a 23’ travel trailer that’s 4,200lbs dry & it’s done well even in our hot Carolina weather.

Is there a drain plug on the torque convertor?

There may be, but I haven’t looked into it. Unless you’re having issues, I don’t feel it’s necessary to drain the converter for a regular fluid & filter service (although you’re correct in that doing it this way not ALL of the fluid will be replaced).
