Thank you SO much for this video and the tip on where to get studs. I received all 4 of mine but stripped a hole in the top hat getting one in. The geo metro studs had a slightly more aggressive spline than the factory hardware, so the Metro stud still seated itself in my stripped hole. Plus I added some jb weld to the stud before stuffing it in to be sure. Cheers!

I rebuilt the suspension on my 05 Trailblazer back in may of last year. Mine had ALOT of front end sag. Replaced strut assemblies, shocks, springs, control arms, sway bar end links, ball joints, tie rod ends, and did a 3 inch supreme suspension kit. Pretty much replaced everything. Was amazed at the difference all the new components made.

i know this is an older video somewhat, but I just did spacer lift on my '03 where the spacers bolt directly on top, and everything about it bothers me in the back of my mind while I'm driving it. All of my suspension and steering is brand new as well, but I'm thinking about switching to the RC kit since it changes the preload in the front and is supposedly safer/ less problematic. Did you ever notice any weirdness in the steering after you removed the factory top hats that had the bearing in them? It seems odd that it's just hollow now with no bearing.

@@PASSIONBUILTso I just put the RC level kit in and noticed that when I go over bumps there is a rattle in the rear. I kept the original springs and just put the spacer in. I did put in new BDS NX2 2 inch lift shocks that come with their lift kit. I thought it could be that since the new shocks have more travel the spring could be to short and coming out of contact with the body. Did you notice anything like this with yours?

First off I look forward to more trailblazer content. Did you ever run into upper ball joint issues. I ask because I have read about the angle a lift puts them at, I'm debating if I should flip and reverse my control arms to help correct it. I've read that a certain amount of lift can cause premature failure of the upper balljoints. I'm going with the same kit you got and would like some experienced feedback on that subject. Thanks

Thanks for the comment! Great question though. I haven’t had ball joints fail just yet. BUT my ball joint boots have all torn and need to be replaced already. I believe this is due to the fact that I bought a cheap Amazon ball joint kit as it was the only set readily available at the time I did my suspension build with the parts shortage. I regret purchasing them and now have to go through them all and replace them again. I will probably also replace front control arms or maybe upgrade the bushings because mine have 260k+ miles on them and are still the original units. I never replaced them when I did the suspension upgrade and they are definitely needed as the factory bushings are toast. My best advise in this case is steer clear of Amazon ball joint kits. If the Dorman or other premium brand ball joints are out of stock. Just wait for them to get back in stock. Buy once cry once. I should’ve done it right from the get go but I was in a rush and now I’m paying the price 😩

Great video and thanks for it. Wondering if you have changed the tire size after the lift? What is the maximum size I can go with the same upgrade?
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the positive feedback. I have always had a smidge taller profile of a tire. Even prior to doing the lift. However, you will need to be careful with tire sizes. After a certain size. You will begin to make contact with the upper ball joint/control arm and will need spacers, which can also cause rubbing on the front bumper/inner fender wells if they’re not trimmed, modified, or removed. I’m not too sure what the maximum tire size you can go to before running into issues but there are a couple of very detailed write ups online about this. I believe they are on the Trailvoy website. 🙂👍🏼 Please give this video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already. It really helps 😃

Any noted harshness in ride? Any problems since install? I’m noticing the top hat puts the burden of the lift on the new strut. These b6’s don’t appear to be intended for added lift. But the b8s are soooo expensive. How’s it been for you?
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris. Great question. The ride quality is great. I love it. Obviously was a major upgrade from my heavily worn factory suspension. Yes, the front end is a little stiffer with the Rough Country top hats installed but it’s not bad at all. Other than the minor added front end stuffiness. I have no complaints. Unfortunately, my transmission went out about a month ago. Soo I’m currently weighing out my options for rebuilding the 4L60E. Not really excited about it 😅

Please help me understand these spacers. I’ve put the on and taken them off three times trying to understand how they lift the vehicle. From what I can tell is, these squish the spring down 2” which in turn prevents the truck from sagging under its own weight so it doesn’t lift it, it just prevents it from sagging under its own weight. Which also takes away some of the coil bounce it would seem. Someone please help me understand these spacers.
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there. The spacers you’re asking about are extended top hats. Yes, they do add some preload to the front springs causing a stiffer front end but they raise the front end 2” and .75” to the rear to level out the truck. As I mentioned. Yes, they do add preload to the spring. So expect a stiffer ride. It’s not unbearable. It’s just a little stiffer. I’m not sure how else to explain this. Hope this helps. 👍🏼
@danielbruce3537
@danielbruce3537 3 жыл бұрын
@@PASSIONBUILT it definitely does help and thanks for responding! I finally figured out they are called “preload spacers” and I went down many rabbit holes learning about them last night. At first I thought there was something wrong with the Monroe quick struts I’m using and none of my friends have ever used this type of lift kit. I was about ready to return them but I think I’ve accepted how they work and am going to re-install them tonight! Thanks for all of your videos! I’m currently redoing my complete front end all the way down to the sway arm bushings. You and rock auto have been a blessing. One last question if I may. What are your thoughts on flipping and swapping the upper control arms to improve the upper ball joint stud angle. All of the forums recommend it to minimize stress on the upper ball joint. What are your thoughts?
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words. I really appreciate that! Please subscribe to the channel and give the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already. It really helps 🙂👍🏼 As for flipping control arms. Yes. That is a very common thing to do on lifted Trailblazers to reduce stress on the ball joints. However, it isn’t necessary with the 2 inch leveling lift kits. The 3 inch lift kits and up are the ones that need the control arms flipped. I avoided it because the control arms are a huge pain to remove from our trucks lol so unless your control arm bushings are toast… I’d leave them alone lol I made another video with a complete suspension refresh. Check it out! kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKulZmR8mapmos0

Love the vid but not a huge fan of the rough country top hat, it puts alot of stress on tge front struts and all it does is change the preload of the front springs to gain its height, wich in turn make alot stiffer ride, and if reusing factory struts can be difficult and dangerous to put back together considering how much you to compress the spring to get enough threads sticking out to get the hardware back on, I personally like just the spacers that bolt to the top of the strut

Did you face any issues with any of the control arm bushings after the installation? If you upgraded the bushings to suit the suspension upgrade, then what did you use?

No issues with my control arm bushings. I do plan on upgrading the bushings to polyurethane next time I dig into the suspension. I have full polyurethane bushings on my Miata from prothane and have no complaints. One of the best upgrades I’ve done for that car. Can’t wait to do it on my Trailblazer.

Love the videos and your info has been the most helpful. I was hoping you could answer a few questions. With this kit, did you have to do the upper control arm flip? Did you flip them or leave them in their stock position? The kit also says it's for 16" tires, my LTZ has 17". Is this going to cause an issue with the kit installation? Can I continue to use my 17's with this kit and be good to go? I appreciate you so much and look forward to more videos. Thank you.
@PASSIONBUILT

I did not flip my control arms but I will when I replace my control arm bushings. It takes the stress off of your upper ball joints and should be done when lifting your Trailblazer. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen people run 17” wheels with this kit with no issues. But if the kit recommends 16s, they recommend it for a reason. Good luck with your lift. Thanks for watching the videos!
