Here is my variation of this sequence: Step 1: Approach the guard at an angle Step 2: Make contact on your opponent's shins Step 3: Give your opponent's legs a little push to provoke him to push back Step 4: Get both your legs caught in your opponent's butterfly hooks Step 5: Desperately try to disentangle your legs while dropping on the ground Step 6: Try to apply a leg lock without having any type of control or knowing what to do

When you roll with someone of that caliber how do you treat the roll? Is it wide open like a comp roll, or more of a learning experience? I’m just a blue so when I when roll with a with someone else who is out of my league I give resistance but it’s more about feeling what they do and learning. Just wondering if that’s a good way to go and your experience with rolling with such a high caliber guy.
@psychoshonen4 жыл бұрын
My suggestion, for what it's worth: when rolling with someone that makes a decent chunk of their livelihood from competition, be cognizant of the fact that any injury jeopardizes their ability to earn a living. No matter how hard you go, you aren't likely to beat them. All you're doing is making it more likely something is going to get hurt in a scramble, with no benefit to either of you from it, and potentially a significant detriment to their professional career. You see that same take when you have muay thai seminars with high end Thai fighters. Don't be the jerk that tries to take the guys head off. If you want to go full bore with the best, sign up and meet them on the mats/in the ring in competition. Otherwise, just try to learn from them and get their feedback on what you can do better.
@leftlegtrumpcard81524 жыл бұрын
MegaSkilla I appreciate the feedback but it’s more my curiosity of how you treat a roll with a world class competitor. Chewy is amazing but some of the people he brings in are next level. I was curious about his experiences with the cream of the crop.

What's the purpose of the hand blocking the head? Is that necessary for the knee cut, or is it more for the step around? And if the latter, why do it so early, instead of doing it after the knee is freed?

@mtkimbrell4 жыл бұрын
Love this different approach to the knee splitting the guard at an angle, I can't wait to try but I can imagine as I put my chest on the side of his knee/leg it looks like you are set to be elevated because your weight is off balanced toward your head. I can see how in nogi you can slip by without the off balance being a problem because he cant grab your gi but with a gi on, this may be a problem as well as your lapel would be available to pull to make you more off balance. Is this move intended for No Gi only?

When I am trying to pass my partners guard like that, I always like to bring my right leg back while holding their ankles. Then, without warning I bring my right foot forward and hoof them right in the butthole. They tend to let me pass their guard pretty quick. Don't have to worry about your heads being on line at all. They will be on their side for the easy back take as well. Try it. It works! Happy training!

Awesome... Ive been to 7 classes at a local BJJ school.. been a 52kg male its tough and everyone who rolls with me all say I have really good defense my biggest issue I have is when I get "pancaked" lol someone's full weight on me just shuts me down.. I cant move/breathe and after a few minutes of rolling I'm exhausted... lol but hey I've only had 7 sessions so just learning how to move and reading what someone is doing is key for me at this stage

@seanpiacente46354 жыл бұрын
Derrick Robinson but you dont need your legs for a kamorah. Sorry, i’m a fresh white belt
@derrickrobinson72694 жыл бұрын
@@seanpiacente4635 It's all good my man. Usually with any submission you'll need to use your legs to some extent, mainly for control. If not, then it's all muscle and luck. For the Kimura in particular, the legs are important for making sure you're opponent doesn't roll or just step over. The legs are also useful for putting yourself at an angle by "Shrimping" in order to have proper leverage to apply the Kimura. Chewy is in a position to where his arms/body is way to far to apply a threatening Kimura grip (where you shoulder wraps around their tricep area). Maybe its possible if he could kick out his left leg to situp, but that's why JT is trapping it

Yeah great teaching when you put the hand on the floor he can grab it your wrist with a c grip. Your shoulder is not pinned so he can do a double great kimura and your in his half guard and you might get in trouble. But. I not put that hand on mat & keep my shoulder pinned. A kimura is a high percentage submission.
