I leave work after a 10hr work day then go teach 30+ kids and then adults. Shower, eat, sleep, repeat. I love it. Just seeing everyone improve and watching once timid people turn in to killers is so rewarding. July will be Leviathans 4yr anniversary🤙 Great advice brother! I have worked some grueling blue collar jobs over the years and the idea of full time at the gym sounds wonderful. I hope the coach that wrote in watches this and it gives them their🔥back.

Gratitude goes a long way. Great video, Chewy! I think videos like this demonstrate you've really found your niche in the KZbin BJJ community. Within my first year after graduating from college, I got a job working in the field in which I have my degree... but it only paid $11/hr., and my shift was 4:30 PM - 1 AM Monday through Friday. I looked for new jobs the entire time I was there. I was arrogant and looked down on some of my coworkers because I have a more advanced degree than they did. In January 2009, when I had been with the company almost exactly 1 year, I got laid off. I was living with my parents at the time and spent the next 4-5 months looking for any job, regardless of whether or not it was related to my degree. When I started working again in May 2009, I was so grateful and happy just to have a full-time job again. My attitude was completely different than it had been at my previous job. I will never forgot what it felt like to be living at my parents' house, struggling to get job interviews, with my only income being unemployment checks.

Hey Chewie. Have been watching and enjoying your videos for years. Tks for the work. Don't think you understand what this dude is going through though. I am in this situation myself and it isn't so simple. Don't know the guy but on my side it makes it harder because I really care. Before, as a lawyer, I was doing my job from 10 to 18h and forgetting about it as soon as I left the office. I've been running a team for 5 years and it feels that there are no breaks. I love teaching but this became a small part of the job. I have hundreds of students demanding stuff from me all the time, daily meetings with Staff and other people to talk about Business etc. It became a lot more than just doing bjj and, since I care deeply about this, there are simply no breaks. On my side this is the issue and I guess it is the same with Bob. Either way, tks again and keep the good work.

It's a lot more about finance/budget, then clients, cleaning the room comes around faster than yout think, than teaching. Rinse and repeat. Begin with some students, then after a while, I mean a whiiiiile, it grows and you get more and more steady students. Takes time to built academies like the one Renzo has.

Odd question, pretty new to BJJ. Is it a must that I lift weights (like hitting the iron) if I want to be successful competing? I do quite a bit of calisthenics and a lot of weighted jump rope but I just plain and simply have never enjoyed weight lifting at all. That’s one of the reasons I enjoyed boxing so much, before my gym shut down. Weight lifting wasn’t really involved whatsoever.
@BallstinkBaron2 жыл бұрын
I'm just a one stripe white belt been to two comps and doing this 9 months but my guess is like any other sport lifting is an advantage. But all lifting does is increase your strength, so it's as necessary as it is for you to be stronger than other people and a more balanced athlete (pulling vs pushing muscles). Also how you already stack up strength wise against other athletes

Does anyone know what to do if a guy gives you full resistance during drills when you're letting him complete his without resistance? I ended up resisting back eventually, now were having a heated battle for position while everyone else is just drilling calmly, resistance free. Only happened once ever but I felt stupid while battling for the position when it's just light drilling. Yes I'm a beginner lol My coach was prob looking over like 🤦♂️

Have a guy at my gym like this. He generally was very agressive. I just straight up told him "Hey man, this is a drill, the purpose is for practicing the movement and muscle memory. Stop resisting and let me get it on". Don't be too friendly with dumb people. It should be self explanatory, they most likely have an ego problem.

Hey Chewy I got a question for ya. So I just started bjj 5 sessions in. I think im learning alright as I've subbed 2 8month white belts with armbars (one while having turf toe which I am currently resting for atm but still going into the gym and just watching). However the classes are very small and consist of almost all purple/brown belts. When we go to the session, we all learn the same moves and then go roll. But im sitting here thinking, mate, I need to master and understand the absolute essentials and foundation, I cant just go out there and do the same moves as these purple belts are learning. But I dont want to leave the gym because they're all great people and a few of them really help me on the open mat. There is a guy there who trains kids and lives a minute away from me, I was going to ask if I can pay him for private lessons where I can practice what I need to. Learn the essentials, practice the same armbar 400 times until it become apart of me ect... I feel like going 5 times a week and just learning new moves every day isn't going to build me up to a good BJJer. I actually said to one of the guys that it feels like im learning how to drift without knowing how to start the car, but he told me to just keep coming and one day it will all click. Not trying to brag about the 2 submissions, just super happy about it and had to hide any excitement of it in the gym because I didn't want to look like a dick.
@10Sethg2 жыл бұрын
First of all, why are you talking about subbing white belts when you invaded a whole country? I started bjj about 6 months ago and have dealt with the exact same feelings you are experiencing. My advice is to hang in there for a few months and see how your experience changes. The frustrating cycle I’m in is to learn a move, try it against higher belts who can counter the move even if I did it perfectly, and then get sloppy with the move because it never works and I couldn’t do it well to begin with. Is that similar to what you are experiencing? I recently went to an open mat and instead of rolling I just drilled a scissor sweep with a guy who had only been coming for a week and it was one of my favorite experiences at the gym. Like you, I also wish they would have classes focused on fundamental movements but you will pick them up along the way as long as you keep showing up. I feel very similar to you but I would just encourage you to keep showing up and take the initiative to “inconvenience” higher belts by doing drills with them (they’re actually pretty open to this but I always feel like I’m wasting their time) and assemble a group of white belts who want to drill during open mats. Attend the kids classes if they will let you. There are lots of great fundamentals to be picked up there. Cheers!
