I think it's really interesting that many deaf people actually form some words with their lips during signing, without ever saying them or even knowing what they actually sound like

I think it's because they observe people lips as they are trying to communicate and associate it with expression of said word just my 2cent

I always assumed that the lip movements were a part of the signing process. I'm probably wrong though. Still, its amazing to see someone sign - and get all that out of it for us hearing folks. Lip reading is also amazing in and of itself.

Not everyone is deaf from birth. So that could be a factor as well.

Believe it or not, some signs require non verbal signals (tongue, mouth shaped in an O, wide eyes etc) so when the deaf mouth their signs, it's usually do to NVS (unless they're hard of hearing) I only took 3 years of sign language but I picked up the same thing from my teacher who also moved her mouth a lot!

As someone with progressive hearing loss these vids really help me. It's scary knowing one day i won't be able to hear but it's comforting seeing these video's. So i'd say it's deffo a good thing:) And Cheyenna is soo cool she makes me feel a lot better about going deaf and i fear it less because of her confidence so thanks for making these video's cut:)

I vaguely remember a few signs from learning how to sign to my brother who has DS since we didnt know at the time how he preferred to communicate, but at random points in her video I followed her hands and could "hear" the spoken message before they annotated. It was so weird, but I understand why ASL is so popular and it works wonderfuly.

issa osama Do it! I'm a senior in high school and I'm lucky enough that my school offers it as a language credit. I'm in my 4th year of taking it and I'm fluent. I interact with deaf people on a regular basis and have a good amount of deaf friends. I'm looking to become an interpreter. As long as you take the language/Deaf culture seriously and are willing to really put yourself out there, you'll be fluent in no time!

I like sign language because ppl looks like they're so into it and signs with their whole body and facial expressions. We not deaf ppl are just "normal" which is boring.
