This goes for lots of Chinese manufacturing. Every manufacturer does some of their 'value lines' in China and they've been getting better all the time. There are still some duds out there so caution is warranted, but most of them are at least decent.

So, I stumbled over your channel cause I bought a 1980's Austin LP. and was looking for similar videos on Gibson copies. Love the videos so far and Gibson purists and gate keepers can F off. I bought a real Gibson a couple years ago and it doesn't come close to the Austin as far as fit and finish. Sound and playability however? That's a different story. Plays and sounds decent. Good job so far brother.

Nice video. Interesting to see how they build custom orders nowadays. Did you specify nitro lacquer? I asked the mentioned seller, and he said they did polyester. Also, Gibson Les Paul Customs feature real mother of pearl. That really sets them apart from epiphone and most knock-offs. Not as their standards, which use pearloid. You did the acetone test in the previous video, are you sure that wasn't just shielding paint or similar?

Poly is standard finish according to the woman I dealt with. Nitro is available upon special request on a custom build. For ($20.00 upcharge,) ( and no guarantee that the finish will not crack during shipping), this is why most Nitro finishes you see on chibson are relic'd. It's easy for them to relic Nitro and no returns due to cracking. MOP board inlays are also available at another upcharge. I chose acrylic, like comes on Gibsons standard models instead. Many options are available, such as upgraded electronics with many sellers. I have not cavity tested this guitar for nitro. It will be done when we do the teardown to verify. One important thing when dealing with China is to ask the seller the same question in a few different ways so things dont get lost in translation. That's the hardest obstacle to overcome. As for the black lp style guitar. Yes that was tested for nitro. They did use shielding paint. However, my test is on the top where the pickup ring sits. Not in the cavity. I will be demonstrating in an upcoming video soon. Thanks for watching.

I could not care less about minor cosmetic imperfections at the sort of price these cost. What's most important is it playable. Does it intonate correctly..and then how does if feel? Weight matters (esp with Les Paul type guitars which can be like boat anchors) and the shape of the neck. All that aside, tuners , electronics can be replaced to taste.

I would consider a Chibson if it had top notch bones and came as an r54 burst routed for p-90's. I don't have the stones to scrape the paint off of my $3k gold top that might not even have flame underneath and even as a working guitarist I just can't justify the $6k for a custom shop ordered r54.

I see debate on this. I believe it was a cream colored . However, many say it was alpine white. I don't know what source to trust. But my thought is, the nitro yellowed so deeply on his original that it was extremely deep yellow. This would make sense on a cream guitar. However, I could be totally wrong. Sorry I couldn't help more.

His got extremely yellowed from nitro aging. It spent a lot of time in the sun. Also when he first received it, it was already yellowing. What's funny is I bet this lightens with age. Lol. How about those X Jumbo frets? What a dream to play. I'm actually going to put some money into this one. A good set of Schaller vintage tuners. And other fixin's. Lol. It's even nicer in person than the video shows. I'm probably going back to this seller again.

Man, all of yours are awesome... I ended up getting one of the turds that are 900 pieces of wood glued together, sloppy routes, etc... mine is like a movie prop, all cosmetic but everything under the curtain is pure shit. It plays well, and I've upgraded some parts on it to make it better. But mine is a turd compared to all of the ones you've received. I paid $190 so be aware people... and mine also had the stupid red "custom" logo on the pickguard that you have to sand off, so avoid those.

Its very strong. It actually smells good IMO. I spray it all of the time on my builds. The problem is that it takes a long time for it to gas off. Now poly can smell horrible when boxed up fresh, ship it and then someone opens it.

Gibson Customs do. The Standards don't. What I meant was even Gibson uses acrylic on standard models. So there is nothing wrong with acrylic on a chinese 300.00 dollar guitar.

I have four Chibsons and I don't know if I have been exceptionally lucky but they have all been excellent. Certainly at the level of my higher end epiphones. Yes the pickups are usually poor but the finish and the bones have been superb. Almost every youtube video I have watched suggests they are awful in every way. Not my experience at all

OK, so I have a question, and I'm not trying to dunk on this guitar or the build. I'm not a huge Randy Rhoads fan at all, but I had this same LP Custom when I was a young man. It was a great creamy antique white, and I kick myself every time I see one for letting go of it. (Yeah, I was young and stupid, we all do dumb things) When I look at photos of Rhoads with this guitar, it's the color I remember. Just a gently-yellowed white. I stopped the video and looked up a bunch of online photos, and they all look like what I remember. Maybe it's the camera here? The guitar in this video is *yellow*. I'm talking French's Mustard yellow. Even the headstock logo looks really yellow. Is it me? Am I crazy here? Did Rhoads have two LPs, one more creamy and one like this? Seriously, I'd consider buying one of these but if it showed up this yellow I'd be furious.

@FultonStreetBeats Ah, ok, I missed where you were going for what that old nitro finish would look like after 50 years. Makes sense. Mine had some small areas that seemed a bit darker but this was in the late 80s so it wasn't that old yet. Thanks for the explanation!

Wow, you're right! I've seen them yellow to an "off-white", but never that yellow...that's amazing.

@stevecooper3487 I almost made the mistake of getting a cream colored one until I actually did some research. There is a subscribers that actually has an old 74 and it's very yellow also. He remembers it when it was white. UV and stage lights kills nitro. I can just imagine all of the shows inside and out under lights that Randy did. I personally love the effect. I hope mine ages well who knows what a matched finish will do in the future. Scary to think. Thanks for watching brother 🙏
