Saw them all with The Brothers Johnson and Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, back in 1980. One of the best concerts you could ever see and hear. Bernard Edwards and Louis Johnson on the same stage. Bass playing was never so good! RIP Bernard, Louis, Tony and Joni.

The bass player, Bernard Edwards, collapsed in his hotel after this concert and died. RIP and thank you for the great music. You will never be forgotten.

I believe it was Bernard, who said about his relationship with Nile, "I will always be his bass player and he will always be my guitar player." It says so much about their friendship. He wasn't feeling great that night during this concert, but you could never tell by his performance. God Bless and Rest in Peace.

BTW this was superproducer and bassist Bernard Edwards' last performance. He was very sick at the time but didn't want to cancel the gig. He died later that night after the performance. Cause: pneumonia. R.I.P. (October 31, 1952 - April 18, 1996)

On this day in 1979 {March 24th} Sister Sledge performed "He's The Greatest Dancer" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'... One month earlier on February 10th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #9 and spent 19 weeks on the Top 100... And on March 31st it reached #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart... Unlike the Statler Bros. & Righteous Bros. they are really sisters; Kim, Debbie, Joni, & Kathy Sledge... R.I.P. Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}...

The Greatest Dancer was that beautiful, expressive, Oh So limber chic up there in the background. She captured the Truth in this tune, but of course, the band, the Sista's Sledge, were all wonderful.

Tokyo's Budokan on April 17, 1996 was to be the very last performance by fellow Chic member Bernard Edwards who died the following day.

He died of intense grooving for sure. Those basslines could kill anybody. Jokes on the side... Bernard was an absolute beast and great musician, he’s really missed.

Chic at Budokan is probably their best album. Overlooked because its 96 but its probably their live peak and the track selection is better than most of the studio albums. Slash does a great solo too and Jill Jones is cute!

Dang this is a jam. She throws her arm up in the air at 0:47 right on the button as she sings "One night.....". Then she goes striding across the whole stage riding the flow of the tune. The audience must have been either bewildered or going nuts.

Nile wanted to cancel the performance once he knew Bernard was sick but Bernard refused. And convinced him he'd go on anyway. Bernard didn't answer his door the next morning. Nile said upon entering the room he knew he was dead by the way that his feet looked.

Someone asked where was the fourth sister, that being the youngest sister Kathy. Well, not too long before this concert, Kathy recorded and released a few solo albums for which she was on tour and that tour coincided with this Chic Reunion/Reminiscing Tour (if I may call it that). All of Sister Sledge, all four sisters, remain alive & well & together; they were featured on one of Oprah Winfrey's farewell television shows, singing none other than their all time smash hit WE ARE FAMILY.
