Last year I was putting together a gallery exhibit reflecting my several-year exploration of people/history/place of Ireland, and one part of my display turned out to be a set of these cubes inspired by this video! In my reading I kept running across references (in Irish literature, commentary, and history) to "Ireland of the Mind" (and variations of this idea). My installation was called "Ireland: It's not what you think it is; it's all that you think it is," and I tried to pull together things/ images/ stories in a kind of 3D gallery-collage relating to Ireland. The set of blocks I made in this spirit, and I titled them "Ireland of the Mind-blocks".... I also created a small stand in which to put them and to highlight them. Thanks you for the inspiration and the instructions!!

Thank you so very much! Thanks to your video, I have JUST been able to reassamble the Van Gogh photo cube a friend of mine brought me from Amsterdam a long time ago. I kept the separate cubes for years until I remembered I would probably find someone teaching how to make one! For the moment I only put the cubes back together back into their magic photocubiness. I believe I will use my wn photos this time. And...your video per se is a class in clear instructions.

@nasreensirajuddin55822 жыл бұрын
Please suggest me any idea to overcome wear tear outside
@chicaandjo2 жыл бұрын
Because this is made of wood, it will never be truly waterproof. Laminating the sheet of paper first will make it too thick to bend, but you might be able to get away with a thin, clear contact paper. Just make sure you account for any extra thickness in the spacer. You could also try applying Mod Podge or a clear embossing powder to the finished cube, just be careful not to make it too thick, and don't let it build up in the hinged corners, because it will definitely crack over time.

@@chicaandjo One more question if I may? When you say not to use actual photo paper because it's too thick - do you copy the photos on a printer or do you just use a regular photo? I'm thinking it can't be that difficult but I'm just not understanding I guess!!
@chicaandjo Жыл бұрын
@@jennwilliams2242 Of course, happy to help! Our photos are usually digital so we just print them onto regular copy paper with an office printer. If you're starting with real photo prints, you can scan them and then print, or maybe get color photocopies made at a print shop.

@@chicaandjo Thank you so much for the above! One last question: do you have a template of the numbered/colored 1-10 boxes? I know you said in your first reply that you have included a template ... can't seem to locate it/pull it up. I have seen the full written tutorial but I'm unsure which template you are speaking of: is it for the numbered/colored pages or the page where it shows how each photo is cut (pattern)? I"ve tried to make my own and it's just not working for me even with a ruler etc. Thank you in advance for your patience with me with all these questions - really appreciate it.

Is there anything you should do to seal the pictures on top? Like modpodge?? I just worry the photos will become damaged over time with no seal.
@chicaandjo11 ай бұрын
We do not seal our photo cubes and have not had an issue with damage, but you are welcome to try if you think yours will receive unusually high use. However, please choose your sealer very carefully -- If you choose something thick like ModPodge, it will negatively affect the ability for the cube to fold and unfold properly, because the hinge spacers aren't set up for that extra thickness. Also, thick sealers might crack and flake if applied along the hinges, as they bend back and forth with use. Instead, you might want to use a very light coat of a spray sealer to lock in the color.

How do you print the photos according to the measurements you provided?
@chicaandjo Жыл бұрын
Jodie, you can either size them using image editing software (Photoshop, Canva, etc) or you can just print them as is an then cut them down to size with scissors.

What about protecting the paper photos from too many hands...would modge podge glue or laminate them?
@chicaandjo2 жыл бұрын
You can try either technique but keep in mind that they will add extra thickness to the photos, which will make the whole cube not fold/unfold properly. You'll need to adjust the spacers to accommodate the extra coating. You could try a quick spray of sealer instead, which shouldn't add to the thickness.
