I started crying the minute the horns kicked it. This is the music of my youth. My first drunk night, and so many more "firsts" happened with this song and other Chicago songs. I'm old now and wondering where all this time went. I don't want to be old, I want to be young again. Where nothing mattered but a good time. Love had such a pinch on me, I let her go and regret that bad decision every day since. I want to live again. I'll cry myself asleep again and somehow find the strength to carry on just one more day.

It can never be explained, the excitement, the overall feeling the we all got from this great music, I feel bad for kids now, there is no seeking and exploring, then ultimately discovering something no one around you ever heard! We were so lucky I still get that feeling every time I hear this music The Joy I remember when I first discovered it, the joy of listening to it over and over again, it never goes away and I believe these poor kids today now where they have a million pieces of garbage in front of them, will never get that kind of joy!!

I was fortunate enough to get music tuition at high school here in a Australia in the mid-80s by a multi-instrumentalist and singer who travelled my region of Tasmania acting like a “locum” at various schools for nerds like me who hung around the music room in our spare time. The man was a genius who has since founded the multi-award winning Southern Gospel Choir. I was at a stage in my learning when he sent me and my alto saxophone off into a room with this song and told me to work out all the horn lines for myself. What he was doing was refining my ear, of course, but at at the time all I knew was this inspirational teacher was giving me time and space to improve my playing outside the traditional classroom format, which at the time was groundbreaking. So thank you, Andrew Legg. Great teachers are never forgotten by their students.

This was my absolute favorite song we played in marching band. I have never heard of Chicago before, and when our director played it for us, I was hooked. I had the pleasure of being first chair playing the trumpet……what an absolute honor that was. Since then I’ve watched countless versions of this song, and this is my absolute favorite so far…….And I graduated way back in 2000, so I’ve had the time to listen to a few different versions.

Terry kath shall be missed but if you listen to the live recordings of Soundstage 2018 and 2019, Chicago's latest guitarist is just as good. With new techniques in guitar playing nowadays with guitar slingers like Reb Beach, Alex Hutchings, Guthrie Govan, Greg Howe, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Ritchie Kotzen, George Lynch, John Scofield, Frank Gambale and hundreds or thousands of others. Look them up and you'll hear them. I love the song although there are various different methods of solos to introduce into this song. Each guitarist may approach the song differently than the other guitar player. Also depending on the xpress floor pedals used as I heard many great guitar players in my lifetime and am sure, there will be others you may not even heard of and suddenly be awed and ecstatic about a certain performance.

Scheff got better vocally during his last few years with the band and has sounded good in most of his post-Chicago performances. I think the relentless touring in the 90s/2000s wore his voice out and he would start "cheating" on certain notes.
@Terry212am3 жыл бұрын
@@realjoshhayes It's silly to try and sing Cetera songs in the original key for decades. Cetera certainly doesn't do it. He lowered keys years ago. But the horn section didn't want to change, so they insist on their employees (band members viewed not as brothers but employees) singing exactly like Cetera in the keys that Cetera sung in decades ago. Scheff struggled with some Cetera material especially as he aged, but who wouldn't?? He had genuine hits under his belt. I never understood why they did EVERY Cetera hit but not Will You Still Love Me and What Kind of Man Would I Be. "Will You Still Love Me" should have been in every single set.
@Terry212am3 жыл бұрын
@@SLagonia BC was definitely bored and sort of declined to sing the melody. Lou has the grit, but sings the songs in a more recognizable way. He's a good replacement.

+Will Gaines As much as I loved Kath's playing & yeah Cetera was a great vocalist & bass player this was well done. Guitar player did Kath very well. I rem when I saw them though Kath was on an SG which does give a different & IMO far better tone. Great writing & arranging although back then there was a roughness to it that isn't quite here. A little too much bling perhaps. Just my 2 cents.

+greatvanzinni good points. IMHO this performance was miles better than the original recording and ESPECIALLY the remaster
@furcifer82189 жыл бұрын
+greatvanzinni, I agree about the SG!!! I don't think they'll ever get all the way back to the raw sound from IX and previous, but I was definitely glad to hear every instrument and voice out clear and balanced up - for the most part - as opposed to over-engineered and mixed down for "pop" recordings. Whoever the sound guy is for GCS is usually pretty amazing - reminds me of SNL, where the real performing bands shine and the pretty-boy studio bands will sound like the train wrecks they really are - but here there is just a bit too much reverb, and somebody missed a slider on some of the individual horn parts. Ever since Jimmy and Lee got away from stand mics, Jimmy will often point his horn right at the deck (so he can hear to tune better) for some of his solos - instead of pointing the bell up - and sound cats that don't really know the horn parts will get faked out and forget to turn him up.
