Chicago VII (Gold Chicago) is such a gift from the band. They just give us so much music on these 4 sides. Everything is stellar. I've been hoping that one day they'd return to making these adventurous recordings. But sadly, they never have. Thanks so much for listening to this one. Great request, Ben G!

happy to bring the Terry Kath flavor back to the channel. So sad they didn't incorporate more instrumentals after this album but it was great while it lasted

I've heard many of their songs, especially in my high school days, but not this one. What an incredible and jazzy song! Kath, and also the flute killing it. Great horns. And such a well-produced song.

The talent level of everyone in this band is ridiculous. And Terry Kath was in a class by himself. What a shame we didn’t get a chance to experience more of his innovative talent. Rip TK.

The guitar solo on Aire is what I imagine Terry's jazzy side would sound like on his solo album

The guy who make the "argh!" sound was Walt Parazaider, who was playing flute. That is something he would do during a solo when things got intense. One got the sense he was gasping for air, in one solo I think he even says "help, help!" Let me see. I think he does it on his solo on It Better End Soon on Chicago II (or maybe it is on the live version at Carnegie Hall?) and also doing Happy Cause I'm Going Home on Chicago III.

You are correct. Walt would also "hum" while playing the flute, which is not easy to do. That was an avant-garde touch he would add that very few ever noticed or gave him credit for.

Yes Terry Kath was a phenomenal guitarist. But I've always thought this sounded like a backing track for some cheesy 70's movie or TV show. Nice flute work from Walt Parazaider.

Thanks Ben for this request. when I get back from Japan 😐.....😅 I need to go back and visit 4-7 again. i am finding appreciation for those albums when at the time they didnt resonate with me. It seems there are gems still to be mined. Walt ripping on the flute, Peter and Danny holding it together though they might not even been playing the same song (How do they do that?) . Then Terry,,,,,how I miss him. Yes Dan it's always a surprise.....even from one moment to the next. Yes I will definitely tune back in.....Same SAD station Same SAD time. You guys really need capes.

I don't think there any organ of any type. It sounded to me that most if not all the keyboard work was done on a Fender Rhodes electric piano.

Oh my, I'd totally forgotten about this! Experimental Chicago at their best. At the transition to their ballad era. But some worthwhile ballads on this, with the Beach Boys collaboration on Wishing you were Hear and a really powerful "Searchin so long". But starting to get a bunch of hokey dreck, sorry to say.
