Some great options. I liked #2 the best. Great views & I liked the little nook window space. I also liked the built-in desk in the bedroom which could also be a good makeup spot. I'd rather work there & then be in the rest of my apartment not being reminded of work.Good to see you & Louie❤

I’m from San Francisco originally and they have rent control and it’s been a crazy issue, but I do agree, the rents in Chicago are NUTS currently.

Hi Caira! What are your thoughts or opinion on buying a condo straight off the bat if moving to Chicago rather than leasing
@pocketfulloffun20 күн бұрын
So I know I am not Caira but I literally did this myself last year. Here is what I did: I got an airbnb in Uptown for 2 months and was able to take that time to check out the neighborhoods and pop around with my realtor to get a feel for the space. The thing about Chicago is, there are a ton of great neighborhood options, BUT, your experience will change drastically from block to block. If you are on a main street vs a treelined street it could change your total experience. So while I did find a condo within the 2 months and moved to Chicago after closing, I do recommend atleast getting a short-term rental/airbnb to just see which neighborhood you want to land in
@Hiiii_holaaaa20 күн бұрын
@ love it, thank you! Are you happy with your decision and feel it was worth it?
@pocketfulloffun20 күн бұрын
@Hiiii_holaaaa it was SO worth it! I’ve been in Chicago for 2 years now and I only wish I had moved to Chicago earlier. It almost feels like this secret gem left in the US. A major US city, with an insane amount of good food, good public transit, so much diversity, and actually reasonable housing cost with a high quality of life. I was moving from the west coast and was tired of absurd rent prices and rising wealth inequality. Chicago feels like a city that has it all and I actually could see myself here long term

@ love that! Same, I’m in CA but have traveled back in forth from Milwaukee & Chicago for the past 10 years and love Chicago! I think it’s the perfect size for a city that doesn’t feel overwhelming as NY. I love the thought of buying a condo although my mom thinks otherwise. Very true for diversity and good food also!

My husband and I are in the process of doing this in minneapolis (moving from Seattle) right now. We knew we wanted to buy and the long term airbnb (3 months) has been great - it's flexible and fully furnished, so we just extended the date to line up with our closing. If you have the capital for a down payment, I'd say get in a short term place, do your neighborhood research, go on a many tours/open houses as you can and then go for it! Good luck with your move!

You're only showing us the rich downtown areas! Don't you think the rest of the city could use some love too? 😭😭 Also the first apartment is not in south loop, it's too far north.
@kevaevans820718 күн бұрын
If you rent that apartment there will be bums living for free right next door to you. It's the whole city. Bums are all through Chicago living there best life. The mayor needs to be in jail for allowing bum shit. They will collect your rent as they bum fronds live right with you through the walls.

@CairaButton I'd try to look into more affordable areas outside of the usual hot trendy spots, maybe look into homes around McKinley Park, Brighton Park, Belmont Cragin, etc. It might help broaden your horizons a bit. Oh and don't contribute to gentrification, help keep the homes reasonably priced.

So agree with some comments that you’re paying just for the convenience of the location . But go further west like Humboldt, Hermosa, Belmont Cragin, etc., and you can literally BUILD (or buy) a brand new “luxury” home (2500-3000sq ft) for the cost of some of these shoe boxes.
