Big No for me. For those prices go live in the West Village in Manhattan, love my city but there's nothing great about living in the South Loop! Manhattan gots us beat with the glitz and glamour. I'd even prefer Williamsburg, Brooklyn than the South Loop, Chicago.

Your math is off. $4500/month doesn't net out to $3719. Also, that only applies to the first year. There's no discount for the succeeding years.

This the first time that I didn't like any of these , the dens are the size of closet I can't imagine a desk fitting in any of these, this client might be better off getting a 2bed for those prices.

i moved out of Chicago. TAXES are BAD - good luck finding parking and if not u have to pay - rent is not worth them prices when you gotta deal with TRAFFIC, over crowded, people are rude, car jackings and the GUN violence is horrible. now also there beginning to accept tent cities from immigrants.. living in a big city is OVERE RATED

The first unit might have been a unit to meet ADA requirements at the time the building was built. A wheelchair would likely able fit under the bathroom sink

That setup isn't for everyone. However, I lived in 2 different units like that and loved them the most. That's because we rarely have company. Maybe, 3 visits in the last 6 years.

Looking to move out to chicago in the next few weeks. These prices are absolutely brutal. Like, wow. I felt like my $2100 apartment in LA was horribly expensive when I lived out there a few years ago. But getting up to $4000 per month on rent is just insane. Not a criticism of your video, its well made, you are a great presenter. I am just suffering from a lot of sticker shock looking at these prices.

Sounds like you need to move to a small town. Chicago is cheaper than the coasts and even suburban sprawl cities like Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Atlanta etc are now the same price as here.
@taylakurner
@taylakurner 20 сағат бұрын
I think these prices are just indicative of the neighborhood. There are a lot of affordable apartments in Chicago. You can get way more space for half those prices in other parts of the city. You just wouldn't be downtown and the buildings would be older.

You can totally find more affordable apartments! I’m looking at one beds in the $1400-$1500 range in north side neighborhoods (north of Lincoln Park). I even saw one for $1265. Ofc these aren’t luxury amenity buildings, they’re quite vintage lol but they do exist!

So what if you’re moving from out of Alaska but are unable to have a job lined up? Is there a certain amount of savings cushions that could offset that? Like a 12-18 month fund? I think we’ll be in this situation and curious of that reality.

This was so informative. I’ve been thinking about moving from NYC to Chicago and the application process is so easy compared to ours! Can you share more about rent increases? How does that work and how often does the rent go up? Does it go by income or percentage? Thank you.
@CairaButton
@CairaButton 3 күн бұрын
There’s no exact number. Some estimate 7% but we’ve seen places that do no increases and others do massive ones like 12%. It only goes up when your lease is up and you look at the renewal.

I was born and raised in the northern suburbs of Winnetka, Illinois and I love going to Downtown Chicago, West Loop and South Loop with my mom, dad, my sister and best friend. I am loving my home out here in the Indiana Dunes with my husband and my newborn daughter who arrived on Jan 28th. He was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago in the Roseland neighborhood all his life and I love our diversity of culture. You would see the Home Alone house located in my hometown.

Most Chicago tenants do pay a security deposit. I'm a homeowner now, but I know many people leasing and all paid security deposit.
@CairaButton
@CairaButton 3 күн бұрын
Only if they rent from a landlord, and even then it’s not super common because legally as a landlord if you get a security deposit it must be held in its own private bank account, making interest, which is then paid back to the tenant. A building will never require one.
