So many ignorant people in the comment section. Its not over singing! Its called Bill Champlin's musicality and style! That's why his concert performances were never boring. He always offers something new to the audience. You want the studio version, then go get the cd or vinyl or listen to Spotify. Gosh! I prefer Bill Champlin singing and doing his own style than Lou Pardini's shouting pretending to sing. Listen to Lou Pardini's What Might Have Been. That is his vocal range, and very different from Bill Champlin's vocal range. Thats why he needs to shouts. In fairness to Bill Champlin he never shouts when he sings

The great Bill Champlin is the leader, creative, dedicated and the man with a devotion to his music. Of course he sings loudly! I've loved his music since 1968 when I was a young girl and an impressional teen. I danced to every song at their concerts. I still love him and his music now in 2018!!

I love Bill Champlin's voice and music. He is fantastic. All these guys have ego. You can't say that the horn guys in Chicago aren't pushy. Peter Cetera was a take-over guy in the band, too. Yet, all of them are terrific. Their egos just get in the way of one another when they are in the same group.
@waltersimmons9462 жыл бұрын
Sorry but Peter cetera was not a take over guy at all. He wanted to be part of the team but was treated like hired help. His song "Hard to say I'm Sorry " saved the bands members careers but band members didn't want that song even being a single because it didn't include horns "Getaway" is a separate piece of movement . The grumblings, jealousy were from the horn players and Robert Lamm. Ironically they never wanted him writing songs or do anything outside the band, though other members had done so. Cetera got tired of the drama , found an out and took it . I call that using good common sense.
@segifford12 жыл бұрын
Sorry I was not clear. I did not mean "take over guy" in a negative sense. I think Cetera is a gentle, beautiful person who has a great voice. I know he wanted to be part of the group.
@waltersimmons9462 жыл бұрын
@@segifford1 You are forgiven, Lol just kidding . Thanks for explaining but it wasn't necessary. Peter became as he's called himself "The Defactor " leader and honestly at the time (before 1982) they were lacking leadership and Cetera said he was going to quit the band, if his first solo album released in January 1982 "PETER CETERA " was a hit. The record company (Warner Reprise) deliberately sabotaged his album to keep him in Chicago. Chicago 16 was not a record yet. But he stepped up and saved the ungrateful old timers in the band . Cetera got along with Seraphine and Champlin. The other 4 members also gave Champlin a hard time too to be fair . Cetera despite having two number ones in (1986,) "GLORY OF LOVE :and "The Next Time I Fall " as a soloist, post Chicago said he had no management, no backing from the record company and they were still trying to force him back in the band . But he said no . Shows how valuable someone really is once you've lost them. Thank you for correcting me. 🎸 🎸 ❤️ ❤️ 👍

I remember back in the early 70's, it was a toss up between the Sons of Champlin and Chicago. Since the Sons were a bunch of stoner hippies from Marin, corporate went with Chicago, but the Sons had more heart, soul and funk.

It’s a shame Bill was never content just singing the song and allowing people to enjoy his phenomenal tone. His boredom and need to do vocal acrobatics all the time just wears listeners out. Such a talent, but obviously someone with extreme ADD.

Some singers do that to draw attention to themselves. I don’t think he has ADD.

Classic case of one guy in the band thinking he NEEDS do it all. I love Bill. And he is quite capable but there is no I in team. Probably the culmination of why he and Chicago parted ways. Ego kills..

I’m not exactly sure what year it happened, but Chicago went down hill. This is he’s to listen to. Possibly when Bill started adding all the “extras” to his voice and the lyrics. Something is off and it isn’t fun to listen to anymore. Sorry Chicago. You should have stopped in the 80s guys.

It's completely stupid to say that. Bill in the studio was able to sing these and other songs out of his tessitura to give Chicago a new face. It is extremely requested until today to be voice and background vocals for several artists. Bill didn't sing too much, he was just very creative and even after almost losing his voice he still managed to fuse different techniques to hit the note, Bill never imitated anyone, just as Jason is much better being himself than being forced to be Cetera. Now, ask Robert to sing a new single to see if he can do it, he singing ''Feel '' live was a total fiasco, if it weren't for the support from Jason and Bill in the chorus the music was lukewarm, he only serves to sing his little songs until today and nothing else. Chicago a guy who took Chicago to the top of the charts and made them rich with, Foster, lost Cetera who was very good in the studio and played almost equal to the original live and lost two great voices of a very strong era Jason and Bill That in addition to being great singers, they were very good composers, better than Cetera perhaps and much more creative in their musicality. But, they prefer to stick with things from the 70's, Lamm's voice singing the same songs, the horns present in songs that don't have the arrangement to spoil. Spare me, Chicago lost it when it fired its two creatives For the ego of the founders. Chicago wouldn't last if it was just Jimmy, Lee, Walter and Lamm and they didn't have the courtesy to name other members on Rock n roll Hall of Fame day. Bill was original, as was Jason.

Without Cetera and Champlin in the band, Chicago is just mediocre at best.
