I wonder if Bill knew that his days with Chicago were numbered at this point... he really brought his A game for both of those shows - on point with the vocals with a contagious level of energy.. great send off for all the Champlin-era Chicago fans.

Wow this is the guy who could do lead vocals, the guitar and piano (better than Lamm thats why Foster songs were given for him to play the piano part), who sangs hits of Chicago and yet so kind, humble and down to earth. The band could have maximize Bill Champlin for another 10-20 years but I guess the "originals" were too insecure and selfish.

@bradleyowen7612 You have to be kidding me. Kath was pure rock, and so was Dawayne. None of the others were rock guitarists. Dawayne was actually a much better guitar player than Terry. He had to be begged to join Chicago . He only joined Yount ubecause he loved Jason and they were best friends. He also was a super fan of Bill Champlin.
@Txdcblues Жыл бұрын
@@aopabaileyhaha we meet again! Dawayne has one of the most amazing voices along with Bill who could be compared to Willie Nelson. Bill came at a time when Chicago needed someone to step up and he did, he has alot of talent however the last years with Chicago, he seem to squel and just not stand and sing the song. Some call it jazz style, to carry a long note or jump to a high note and chew it. I just wasnt working for me at the end. He is a true talent, but Chicago allow him to over shadow the other talents in the band. Robert Lamn, Jeff, Lee, Jimmy, and now Lou, are all voices of Chicago. I like it that way.

Big Champlin fan. My only beef with Bill is that he always seems to bore easily when it comes to singing his hits. He just over sings the songs that people love the most. It's too bad. He has one of the greatest vocal tones of all-time. A few licks are fine, but he just over does it.

Chicago is terrible live these days. Most days they have replacement horn guys that play a lot tighter than the originals, who have become pretty sloppy. The vocals are horrendous. Scheff screeches and yells to hit the high notes and the harmonies are sloppier than the horns. Pardini is good, but he's no Champlin...and you spelled both of their names wrong.

Bill Champlin never met a Terry Kath vocal he didn’t butcher! Good riddance! Best version of the band since the original lineup was with Howland, Pardini and Coffey (which also sounds like it would be a great law firm!)
@shawncosmos54313 ай бұрын
BS. Btw. Kath butchered his own vocals towards the end of his life due to his drug and alcohol demons. He sounded awful. His playing was awful. His own fault. Along with his ignorant ass playing with a loaded gun. Luckily it wasn’t an innocent by stander who got hit.

I'm not comparing the band now to the band in the 90s, they are kind of just and oldies act at this point. The recent stuff I've seen from them has been pretty good, though. They seem to be trying to recapture that 70s sound when they were at their peak. The 90s stuff with Champlin just sounded like horrible, formulaic soft rock of the worst kind. Not for me at all, I like the original Terry Kath version of the band.
