I met Mongo once in a bar in Woodstock, IL. He had a drink with me and talked with me for 10 minutes in between his duties at the appearance. When I asked him about his Super Bowl ring, without hesitation he removed it and handed it to me. Like he’s done that 1,000,000 times, because he had. This is a man who was exactly who is, always. No BS. God bless you Steve. You really did hit this life fully.

So I'm watching for a couple minutes a few people are talking and all of a sudden I realize how one person is talking and answering questions it's Payton, I didn't recognize him at all, I didn't see the beginning of the conference so I didn't see them introduce Walter. What the disease did to his body. It’s a horrible disease, I don’t know how I would respond to the diagnosis, but his sense of humor and no “woe is me” attitude is amazing! God Bless you Mongo, I wish you all the best. Loved you and the other Monsters of the Midway!

For this guy to be as happy and enthusiastic as he is with what he has shows what a great loving guy he is because others would be miserable and mope around so atleast seeing him like this is atleast one positive thing he and family can look at and be proud of keep the faith

What a great sense of humor; but he can offer so much hope to so many other people by his positive approach and his willingness to speak out. God Bless you thank you for your honesty and the joy you bought to all Bears fans.

Wow, Steve, I just found out. I met Steve when he was in High School. He was in my Health class in Freer, Tx. It was one of my first teaching jobs. What impressed me was his dedication to lifting weights to be a better football player. Followed his career as a Cleveland Brown alongside Refrigerator Perry and as he became a wrestler. You are right about us all getting there. I admire your tenacity and spirit. I pray for you and your lovely family. See you down the road, Sir.

Love the simple fact he maintains humor. Knows he had a solid session in life. Doesn’t feel sorry for himself. He understands his circumstances and deals with it. In my book that’s a real mans man. I’m 65 myself so I hope I have a similar attitude.

I remember that team! One of the best football teams ever to take the field! Glad to see he is such good spirits but it’s a shame he and his family has to go through this! Chicago loves you Steve!

I grew up a Lions fan, but had mad respect for some of the Bears players. I've lived in Chicagoland for the past 20 years and Mongo is one of the great Bears players and a one of a kind personality. So sad that this is happening to him and other NFL players.

Met Mr. McMicheals at Lake Forest Oasis. He was kind enough to give me and the guys working up there 15-20 minutes of his precious time. We were laughing at the amount of lottery tickets he had in his hand. We talked a lil football and a lil wrestling. Gave us all some great laughs. Don't worry Steve, Mongo! Your going to the PEARLY GATES! Thank you!
