My fondest memories of Steve 'Mongo' McMichael were not on the gridiron where it made his first impression, but as a powerhouse in World Championship Wrestling as a member of the Four Horsemen, captained by Ric Flair. Steve 'Mongo' McMichael had a memorable run as WCW United States Heavyweight Champion and before stepping into the ring, he was great on the mic as a commentator as well.

KZbin suggested this video on the eve of an Athens Georgia Celebration of Life ceremony for UGA and CFL legend Steve Greer. Steve was a beast defensive lineman who might have never weighed over 190 pounds. ALS took Steve from us last week. He faced ALS with the same courage and grace that you do. I met Steve McMichael once. I was working at a sports store and this huge guy asked, ‘hey, partner, could you tell me where bathroom is?’ I showed him and he said thank you. Only after he left did I realize who it was. I quickly grabbed a card and pen to ask for his autograph when he came back. When I asked, he said, ‘Sure thing, Buddy!’ And he cheerfully signed it. He could NOT have been nicer! I interacted with him for about 20 seconds and it was all anyone would need to know what a great guy he is! The Mongo we all saw on tv and loved was the exact same guy in person! Thanks again, Mongo! You’ll always be one of the greatest- on and off the field!

The best!!!!! He triumphed from humble upbringings. His Father was the Bully in town. The local Police in town took him under their wing. He flourished and he selected the University Of Texas to hone his skills. The rest is history. I was on the same team as him at UT. I came to know him as having tough exterior, but under his exterior was a good Man who had a great sense of humor. And when you won his friendship, you got to see an awesome Man who loved life and Football. And yes he loved the ladies. It's terrible to see him like this, but God must be calling him home!

I met Mr. McMichael at a Bennigan's Restaurant in Niles, IL about 17 years ago. I was at the bar and he came in and I bought him a drink. He returned the favor and we talked a bit. He said he was going over to the book store across the street for a signing gig for his new book, Tales From The Chicago Bears Sidelines, and that he wanted to have a couple of drinks before he went over. After he left, I went over and bought the book and got in line for him to sign it. When I got up to his table, he looked at me and I said, "Remember Me, I just bought you a drink across the street." So he signed My book, "To Carl, Thanks For The Booze Steve McMichael 76 Bears. It's a Great Book. I recommend it for All Bears' Fans. Well, I just want to say to Steve McMichael, Thanks for All the Sundays of Enjoyment back when You played for My Chicago Bears. You're a HOFer in My Book, Sir. God Bless.
