lol, I moved to Holland Michigan in 2017; contractors at my house advised us to avoid downtown during Tulip Fest because of the mass of people. So naturally we went to see the crowd. The next day we told the contractors that was Saturday at Navy Pier 🤣

It was a lot stronger when it was farther west in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Reported and recorded winds of 70-100 mph occurred and many weak spin up tornadoes.

@@JJJJE-zy9wk most of the tornadoes occurred in the chicago area. which means the derecho was the strongest in northeast illinois. the winds at the southern flank of the derecho was 70 - 100 mph in north central illinois. only a few tornadoes occurred west of the chicago area. the strongest winds were recorded on the western side of the chicago area! while the strongest tornadoes were recorded on the eastern side. so the derecho reached its peak strength in the chicago area.

@@PyroRob69 that was a dechero which is different than any type of windstorm. It had tornado like winds, and can produce mesocyclones as well. Also, the reason Chicago is called “the Windy City” is because it sits on Lake Michigan, and gets the winds from there which is not to be confused with dechero.

@@beanboy8243 Ever seen spring storms in CO? It relocates the trailers from the most liberal city in the state. They happen every year. Insurance companies buy new trailers for them every year. 100 mph wind storms are not out of the ordinary. Maybe the 'windy city' comes from the blowhards. 🤣

There are reports of at least 10 possible tornadoes that spawned within a very short period in the Chicago area and over 200k people are without power. But we're snowflakes.

A derecho isn’t a regular summer storm. It’s a long track, widespread, and long lived storm that can produce winds of 58+ mph. Yesterday we saw places see winds reported and recorded of 70-100 mph and a lot of weak tornadoes. It wasn’t as intense once it reached Chicago but it still produced some pretty strong winds and 2 very weak tornadoes in Chicago. The videos Fox is showing aren’t doing justice.
