The Bulls' bench isn't really deep if you look at it, but everyone knew exactly how their teammates played hence the chemistry. You can only achieve such chemistry with countless and relentless practice. Thank God Phil Jackson orchestrated the team, while MJ being the drill sergeant in practice. The rest is history. Even Scott Burrell, Jason Caffey and Randy Brown have their highlights in this clip. Goes to show what Jordan said: "Talent wins games, but teamwork wins championships."
@m.l.b.29084 жыл бұрын
I was going to say similar. It's great to see the role players and guys who rode the bench a lot getting their time in the sun in this video.

role players is very important in each teams... an amazing symphony with that bulls teams, everybody know their role.... even the guy playing 1 minutes know what he is suppose to do.
@haroldbenton9794 жыл бұрын
Their bench was deeper than you realized. Kukoc was the 6th man of the year in 95-96 runner up the next 2 years Buchler and Kerr where lights out 3 point shooters from behind the arc Caffey could bang with the best of them in the paint Wennington was a very underrated center in terms of passing. Randy Brown could play shutdown defense as well as Pippen and Jordan when in the game. He literally was called the Pitbull on that team the guy that when he was told to guard someone he was on at their throat. Kukoc could drop 20+ on your butt in a heartbeat. The reason why they were so unstoppable was the Triangle offense. If one player was shooting lights out they kept getting that person open and feeding him the ball so he could fire off another shot. There where games in the second 3peat where it was the Bench mob that led the comebacks.
@mannyneva17603 жыл бұрын
Phil is overrated MJ ran that show and all these players were training and practicing against and with MJ. Even Randy excelled once MJ came back
@pheeel173 жыл бұрын
@@mannyneva1760 I wouldn't say Phil was overrated. I actually disagree with the original comment here. The Bulls bench was very deep, not meaning it had tons of talent, but they played all 12 guys. That was the genius of Phil Jackson: carving out very specific roles for everyone. 7 foot Bill Wennington's job was to hit a 15 footer from the baseline or foul line area. That was *literally* all he was there to do. He sucked at everything else, but he was money with that shot. They'd bring him in, let him get up 3-5 shots in a few minutes, and then take him out (even if he made all of them). Jud Buchelor was a 6'6" shooting guard that didn't have much game, but had some decent athleticism, and was there to give Jordan a breather and hit corner 3's. Steve Kerr we all know was a 3-point specialist (still has highest 3FG% in history). Randy Brown was key off the bench, mainly for his defense, as he was really the only Bulls guard who could keep up with quick smaller point guards (Starting point guard Ron Harper at 6'6" had been a shooting guard his whole career and was getting old; Jordan could guard point guards, but they didn't want him wearing himself out). And as you can see in the highlights, Brown had some decent hops for a small guy. Toni Kukoc was 6th man off the bench (and won 6th man of the year in 1996). Jason Caffey was a rookie in 1996, and Rodman's back up. Dude was a legit athlete; literally tried to dunk it every time he got the ball, and had some monster rebound games while filling in during Rodman's many suspensions. So that's 6 bench players already mentioned that got playing time pretty much every game. And throughout the years, you had others like Will Perdue, Dickey Simpkins, John Salley, James Edwards (With Salley, Edwards, and Rodman, in 1997, the Bulls actually had 3 former Bad Boy Pistons on the team all at once), Craig Hodges, B.J. Armstrong (Eventually took John Paxson's job as starter in 1993 and made the all-star team in '94). So I'd say it was an extremely well designed team, with the Jordan-Pippen-Kukoc leading the way as playmakers and scorers, with a cast of super specific role players. And as Harold said, everyone knew how to run the Triangle Offense perfectly, so that second string played really quality basketball

It was practically unfair to the rest of the teams especially in that 2nd 3 peat with 4 elite defenders on the one team. IF the bulls had a off shooting night which they did many times, they would just back it up on defence and save their asses. I mean MJ, Pip Rodman and then throw in Harper on defence was practically impossible to contend with. A thing of beauty on transitional plays was a sight to see with this team. Only 1 maybe 2 teams in NBA history could beat this bulls 96-98 team and its Laker of the 80s due to the x factor Kareem as not even Rodman would be able to stop Kareem, and potentially the celtics of the 80s also with bird parish and co maybe beat the bulls.
