In most jurisdiction a STILL ALARM is a single-engine response. At San Diego Fire Rescue, a still alarm is basically any call that doesn't have a specific alarm assignment assigned to it. Malfunctioning hot water heater, overcrowding, etc. Structure fires are 4E, 1T, 2BC, 1 ALS for residential and an additional truck for a commercial bldg or multi-family residential. A high rise gets an additional engine company. Thanks for the info....Tim

they had 2 lines in the building going in on the side and one to the first floor and one to the basement. The flames coming out of the window in sector 4, just right of the chimney is in a closet. that's why I had to lead out from E94 and hit it from the alley. it was a pretty good fire.

In research and listening, Chicago is somewhat unusual in that they don't use 10 codes, they go with plain english. There's lots of good resources that show how Chicago parcels out equipment on alarms.

@RonaldReagan7 no. they were issued full bunker gear tear and a half ago. this is an old fire
@spoung45a15 жыл бұрын
Most likely because the front door is on the side of the house (sector 2) as is the case with some Chicago bungalows. So where the fire was blowing out the windows on sector4 is about the same spot in sector 2 where the door would be. and typically the door is at ground level or is up a a few steps on a really small porch (too small for more then 2 people to stand on)

No, we use the bunker gear now. We were one of the last departments in the country to use the 3/4 length coats.

@@gilbertoherrera8912 what are you talking about? Most departments require you to have your air on when you're on the roof. Just think if you step on a soft spot and all of a sudden you're in that fire.

Cutting those holes in the roof and breaking those windows is the work of people who just don't get it. Hit the room with all that fire coming out with a fire hose. Everything will get wet and the fire will go out. Let's see how long these idiots will LET this building burn while they play with it. Breath taking isn't it? You see by now, the fire has burned through the ceiling and walls and has spread. In one second after applying water the flames disappear. Imagine that. Notice how the smoke isn't coming out the holes in the roof as they thought it would. They still think cutting holes in the roof is going to create a "Chimney" and all the bad heat and smoke will miraculously go out the roof. Nope! Still coming out the windows.

cutting holes in the roof and breaking windows are part of the whole process of fire extinguishment. put water on the fire break the windows to let out all that heat and smoke. Hit it hard from the yard if you havent heard of that just to to initially knock it down. Take the line in and hit the rest of the hot spots. you would cut holes in the roof just in case, you are right, the fire DOES burn through the ceiling and spread upward, depending on the strength of the ceiling inside. its part of two phases, searching for fire extension and also to relieve the guys inside of all that heat and smoke. so there is two forms of ventilation going on horizontal and vertical. im not sure how you have been taught about fire attack, but everything that they are doing on the scene is helpful. heat will rise so if the steam is coming out the windows then that means that the main body of fire is "knocked" not out but knocked down. so now it will be a more cooler and somewhat safer enviornment for the guys to get in and fully extinguish and secondary search.

Anthony. I want you to go to 2:00. They did a bad job but look how fast they put the fire out once they put water in those windows. If they had done that with the deck gun 30 seconds after they stopped, the fire would have been out 5 seconds later. Now, I want you to ready your response again and see how complicated the fire service makes putting water on what's burning. Even if you heard there were people in there, that fire is threatening them. Stop it now. Cool the place down for them and the fire fighters that aren't even dressed yet. They make training complicated to make everyone think it is. It isn't rocket science. If you see it, put water on it. If you can't see it, go look for it. If it's hot in there, cool the ceiling with a spray of water. K.I.S.S. and stop it Now!
@anthonyjackson84988 жыл бұрын
oh, i agree with all that its a simple process but sometimes every situation isnt the ideal one. maybe im lost as to what you claim they did a bad job on. just like you said hit that room it cooled the room so now lets talk about the physics. heat rises so now the attic is rolling. the safe way is to expose the fire which is why they are on the roof. they arent playing with it. once they cool the room then they move in and knock the fire out completely.
@JB917107 жыл бұрын
Anthony My point is, you can see the flames coming out of that room. You walk up to the window and hit the Ceiling with a straight stream which explodes like a huge sprinkler head. You wave it back and forth to cover the whole room. You open the nozzle to a wider fog and wave it around Inside the room to make sure every surface is covered. Then you go inside to mop up. You stay off the roof because Vertical Venting does NOT work like everybody Thinks it does. Put that manpower on stopping the fire. You ONLY vent windows at the fire rooms so the heat escapes away from the rest of the house. No extra work and no wasted motion. Focus on the fire and getting the heat and smoke out the closest and safest way. Windows!
