I know its been drilled into peoples heads that "its her body, her choice", but its totally unfair to him to be expected to have no input. I feel like the writers ruined Dawson. They had an opportunity to have her grow as a character and learn from her mistakes but they didn't. Almost every episode it's the same old with Dawson making impulsive decisions and leaving Casey out of it. If this is the end of her character, then it's quite a shame.

I totally agree. One of the major reasons I became hooked on Chicago Fire was because of the strength of her character. I think Monica Raymund is a very good actress and does a great job portraying Gabby but the likeability, or lack of, is all in the writers' hands. I don't understand why they seem determined to destroy the character.

I always thought Gabby was rather selfish when it came to Matt and their relationship, but this scene is truly something else. Gabby want's a baby but there is a chance she will die - leaving Matt widowed and raising the baby alone, so Matt suggests adopting (like any normal person) and is somehow the bad guy in all this? And what does Gabby do? does she talk it out with her significant other? does she suggest counselling to better understand each other? of course not! she decides to ignore her husband and take a job in Puerto Rico more than 2,000 miles away without telling him. Her body, her choice? then she can find some other stand-up guy to knock her up with the bonus chance of killing her. This seasons finale was really bad to be honest:(

When I first stated watching they were my absolute FAVES but then I came to realize that she was so selfish and constantly making decisions without him or thinking about his feelings. And then when he finally calls her out on the fact that she keeps doing that she stormed out and went to find out about leaving to volunteer. And then tried to make him the bad guy with that whole “you knew who I was when you married me. It used to be the thing you loved about me” crap. As soon as she wasn’t getting her way she left.

No, it isn't Dawson's risk only. If she has a problem and the baby is alive, who will raise the baby alone ? And I don't speak about sentiments only. To raise a chid with someone is different to raise him alone. She can't forget the baby and her husband because it's her desire to have a natural child. I hope it's the end of their story. If they were willing to foster before she should be willing to adopt now. Fostering is different fron adopting a baby. Just gonna through this out here. I used to be a huge Dawsey shipper. But I'm not anymore and here's why: she doesn't treat him well. Matt grew up in an abusive household that eventually led his mother killing his father to protect him. Matt is insecure because of his father. And every time Gabby has gone behind his back, with Louie and Bria and now this, it reminds Matt yet again how he is not worthy of being loved. And Matt does not deserve that. Watch this scene and watch how he cries, how he asks why he isn't good enough. Watch as he breaks. Gabby's independent and strong-willed but she's hurting her husband. And come S.7 when she goes to Puerto Rico and is killed off (since Monica Raymond isn't coming back) I think Matt will be better off. Because he loses a little more of his spirit each time she makes him feel inadequate and unloved.

Truly one of my favorite couples on these Chicago shows. Gabby and Casey just hitting a rough patch like all marriages do in real life and on TV fake couples. They'll fix it and come back stronger. Shows for the most part always give cliffhangers on Season Finales. Alot stuff going on in Fire no doubt. Can't wait for next season

I can't wait to see the direction of next season. Chief definitely deserved that spot although there are too many politics involved. He actually cares about the well-being of the firefighters more than a position title. I hope the new guy (cant even remember his name, i hate him so much on this show) is found guilty of something and loses that position. Casey deserves someone who will listen to him and not be completely selfish. He has let Gabbie dictate the whole relationship and he deserves a say in whether she is willing to give her life to give birth. Its not really fair for the child to not have her as a mother. Miracles happen but he feels it's not worth the risk and that's understandable.

Just going to put this out there rn....gabby may love Matt , but she's nowhere near ready for marriage or the things that come with it . I observed her behavior all season , and it's sad how how left out she's made her husband feel. I know losing Louie disappointed her, but the fact that she wasn't considerate of Matts feelings , not once bothered me . It's literally always "her way or the highway " and it's not fair . If the roles were reversed and Matt was pressuring her to have a baby and making major decisions without her input ,cutting her off, disappearing in the night and making her wait up I bet she'd change her tune. Marriage is basically a partnership with someone you love and care about more than anything . Matts put up with so much ...I just don't see their marriage getting stronger or lasting if gabby wants to act single and run away from the issues every time she doesn't get her way

I am going to miss my fierce Latina woman, Gabby Dawson. Monica Raymund was the FIRST actor hired in the One Chicago universe and she brought so much to the role. The likeability of a character, or lack of, is all in the writers' hands. But I loved the strength, determination, and honesty of Gabby. I know some fans only saw her as selfish but she was at least interesting to me. I sincerely hope they do not replace her with another cardboard cutout, vanilla Barbie doll type even if that would probably make some of the Casey fangirls happy.

Chelsey MacMillan it was set up like this because Monica Raymund might be leaving the show. Their contracts ran out after six years & they renewed Jesse Spencer & Taylor Kinney months ago (as they are the leads of the show so are the priority) but negotiations on her contract have stalled so

As I look back, I'm grateful they made me dislike her character at the end, so it was very easy for me to move on. I shipped Dawsey from beginning to end, but now I'm rooting for Brettsey all the way. (I just wish they were closer in age.)

Hey, Imma say it. I wasn't super enthusiastic about them taking the Brett- Casey route with things, but that's literally JUST because of the Matt-Gabby-Brett-Antonio dynamic which they explicitly lampshade over and over, rather then them as characters. Lets be real, if Gabby went through what Brett did with Julie, She'd push Matt all the way to Wisconsin. Brett listened to Matt, let him in, let him pull her through. I hope that they take this relationship between Brett and Casey seriously, they're good for each other. And hey! Brett needs a new roomie, and Casey's mentioned that maybe he should get out of Severide and Stella's place. Maybe they'll move in together! Also, personal opinion, I'd love for Brett and Casey to have a kid together. Casey's arc through the entire series is about fatherhood, Hallie not feeling ready to have kids, looking after the Darden boys, Gabby's miscarriage, adopting Louie, pushing through Gabby's request to foster Bria, Gabby leaving because Matt doesn't want her to risk her health for a baby. We haven't seen him with a biological son. That's what I want them to do with his character.

This is why I never completely liked Dawsey. It's never been a relationship with two people. There was Dawson, who makes decisions and then there was Casey, who in the end always let her take the last decision. And not only in the last season it's from season 3 and on. So my unpopular decision is that I would have preferred they kept Shay.

You also mention about Shay, what about the time in season 2 where Shay and Dawson had a fallout after responding to a call about a guy in distress mainly because he was infatuated with Shay only to pull out a pistol and turn the gun on himself. Shay did her best to calm the man down and talk quietly unlike Dawson who YELLED at the guy which only made him worse. Then they have a fallout thinking Gabby was right the whole time. Didn’t she also know that this argument put Shay at an all time low that she almost killed herself until Dawson finally admitted her wrongdoing 🙄 And also Gabby claiming that going through the adoption with Louie and then seeing his original family taking him back put so much “pain” in her? Oh please. Last I recalled Gabby was so head over heels on trying to adopt Louie...while not going through the necessary steps to adopt. This is why I’m so glad Gabby is no longer on the show. At least her character is assisting rescue with children in Puerto Rico which is more suited for her

@@TheKevTravel I completely agree with you. The desperate attempt by the writers to make Dawson a strong woman fall down the drains and she ended up being annoying most of the times. A true strong female is Stella for me, and even Brett which she’s more soft but fierce when needed. The thing I always say to myself is that Shay deserved better and if I had to choose, I’d kept her instead of Dawson. Nothing against Monica, who I love and I believe she did a great job with what she had thrown at herself; but Dawson became unbearable to me. Season 7 was a fresh start for the show and it got better and better.

I like Brett and she I s showing her growth but one thing that annoys me about her character this season is her undetermined feelings for Casey. I know she doesn’t feel comfortable at all dating her best friends ex, but viewers and herself also need to know she used to date her best friends brother, Antonio and now that’s her best friends’ brother’s ex!!! And she also used to date Joe Cruz in season 3 AND also at one point was living with him and Foster last year!!! The problem with Brett is she listens to too many peoples advice when it comes to a relationship. She didn’t start having feelings for the Captain until her birth mother kept bringing Casey up and a friend of Foster leading some cardio class suggested that Casey & Brett should be a couple. And at the beginning of this season when Brett had to deal with the brother that held a gun to her head while helping the patient that OD and died unfortunately, she was advised by Detective Burgess to call her or Chicago PD if she did not feel safe. She sees her door to her apartment open. Who does she call....CASEY?!?! That shows her true feelings for him but she can’t admit it!!! Then she almost gets hurt when that gunman ran her off the road. All of that seriously could’ve prevented if she had just called the police and then she wouldn’t have her head mixed up between kissing Casey and regret kissing him after questioning if he still loves his ex, Gabby. It’s understandable why she asked him but why didn’t she ask him that question BEFORE kissing him rather than DURING the kiss?!?! I do love Brettsey, but if they can’t look at each other confidently then we all watched this Brettsey ship for nothing which has me annoyed all season about this tease.🤦‍♂️

@@TheKevTravel for me it’s different, this thing with Brett. First of all the ex rule in this case don’t bother me at all because it’s not like the Dawsons stuck around to claim property of anything. I didn’t like the writing at times, but that we got. Also Brett already had feelings for Casey back in season 7, her mother just pointed out the obvious behavior she and Casey had toward one another. Casey needs to free of her. She is too self-centered, and always wants it her way or no way. Matt didn't want to adopt Louie, but Gabby did. And Matt comes around. He didn't want to be alderman, but Gabby pushed it and he became alderman. She didn't even ask him about Bria. Just told him she's staying with them and that was that. Matt finally grew some balls and didn't back down when Gabby said it was worth the 10% risk to keep trying to get pregnant. And now Gabby is feeling all hurt, because Matt didn't give into her, for a change.

I liked Dawsey but sometimes Gabby can be selfish, its not about her being independent, she never thinks about how Matt will feel- she makes all the decisions- their breakup, fostering Louie, Bria, the Cordova thing and the baby thing. We all know that if Matt was the one that had done these things she would be so angry and jealous. I agree with Jesse Spencer's comment that the season 6 finale was their best yet. Instead of focusing on a big fire and leaving lives in the balance the show focused on the characters and left many relationships up in the air giving the writers more to work with next season. That being said I am still devastated by what happened to dawsey. From the season premiere they have had Dawson struggling to overcome almost losing Matt and then her father so I was hoping for good news. Even if she found out she was both pregnant and had a life threatening condition. That would've made for good drama next season and hopefully given us a dawsey baby for ep 150. But ever since stellaride hooked up at Molly's dawsey has been pushed aside. I've lost count as to all the parallels between the two couples. I could probably ship stellaride if it didn't feel like I was watching dawsey 2.0. And if Monica Raymund is truly leaving I hope they have gabby die. As painful as it is to have a character die its even more so hoping they'll return.

I agree, this was almost more emotional than the end of season 5, even with Casey's speech to Dawson while he was trapped. I would hate to think that this is the end of #dawsey, such a horrible way to do it. I hope Monica does come back, even if she isn't there for some of the season. I totally forgot that season 7 would bring episode 150, how ironic that episode 100 saw #dawsey finally get married, anyone want to bet that 150 will see Casey signing divorce papers instead of becoming a Dad? Also agree about stellaride, the parallels are so similar between them and #dawsey but sadly they lack the same history and connection. Dawsey has been building up over 6 years, I really don't think any other couple is going to match that. I really worry that season 7 is going to become the new season 3 i.e. terrible!

I think Derek Haas did a fantastic job showing how quickly a relationship can unravel no matter how much the couple love one another. When I think of all the times Casey had to assure Dawson of his love for her. How often Dawson went off by herself to do whatever. The ending was clear from the first episode this season. I just hope had it not been for Monica's departure dawsey would have found their way back to each other. Or found a way to part as good friends the way they started.

Obviously Dawson struggled this season and she was very needy and kept going off to do things on her own but they always managed to come back together. My hope is that Dawson goes off to Puerto Rico but comes back and maybe realises what she has with casey and they try to work through things. I wouldn't want to see her killed off- I don't think Casey could take losing 2 people who he loved and loves so much. Ultimately it all depends on whether Monica raymund decides to come back so who knows what will happen! Just a shame that to potentially see this relationship end.

Again, it's okay to be tough and independent, but Gabby should've realized this is a decision she can't leave Casey out of. Having kids which could lead to your death is something that parents have to be in agreement with. In my opinion. Just because I think that while you are willing to take a risk, if you die. Then they have to raise the baby on their own. That is a big thing. Some people can't be a single parent and cope with loosing the person they love at the same time. Also some people can have guilt and anger towards the baby that caused the mother's death. There are so many feelings and concerns with this issue. And while you might be willing to take the risk yourself, your child and partner are the ones that are going to have to deal with all the pain and consequences of your choice. It is one of the few things that I don't think should be a solo choice to make.

Yep. Dawson does several things not only without consulting Casey, but often after he has said he doesn't like it/want to do it, ever since they first got together. Their whole relationship is based on him doing exactly what he's told, when he's told, and he's not supposed to complain about it, in fact, it's supposed to be what he "loved most about her". Frankly, the show only hints at the background for this, but the fact he stays is pretty much the best layered writing to show the effects of systematic emotional child abuse on a grown man (watch S1, see how his mother and sister treat him, plus all the references to his father...Matt was clearly abused).

I'm not sure if this is a hot take, but I think "The Grand Gesture" is the worst episode of Season 6. I don't hate the episode it has some really good moments with Stellaride. And Cruz being there for Sylvie is cute. But I can't look past this episode knowing this how Dawsey ended. I know Gabby isn’t everyone's favorite, but I feel like the writers could've found a better way to write her off the show without destroying her character and her relationship with Casey in the process.

So stupid was I to think that finally, after everything that they have been through, that season 6 would end with Dawson finding out that she was pregnant and that season 7 would see them take on not just the challenges of being parents, but also how to balance being parents and first responders and all the dangers that the job entails. No, instead, we get this heartbreaking ending that no body wants and leaves us with an agonising wait to find out if #Dawsey is all over. I will be so disappointed if this is the end for them, after investing in this relationship for 6 seasons, I don't think I can watch if they divorce. How is it still the same show with no Dawson and Casey seeing someone else? It's not right. I really hope that, if Monica Raymund does was to take some time out, that the producers/ network give her the time but then have her come back say, maybe after the midseason break? Dawson can go to Puerto Rico and Casey can focus on being an amazing Captain and firefighter, then pick themselves up and sort out this mess that we've been left with. So many options for them to explore, surely first and foremost, asking the doctor what the options are to fix the aneurysm? Then look at surrogacy and adoption together, as a couple, not apart, and not with Dawson putting herself first all the time. Just a really awful end to this season, that has actually had some really sweet and powerful #dawsey moments. Rant over!

I love this show...but... How come when a character is written off the show, that character is hardly ever mentioned again? They’ll bring up Dawson just because she was there for 6 seasons and was engaged to Casey....but that never happens with anyone else. Excluding Shay... They talked about Mills for maybe 1 or 2 episodes after he left, they never talked about Jimmy after he left, never talked about Chili, never talked about Clarke, never talked about Newhouse, never talked about Vargas, never talked about Jones (that I can remember), never talked about Rafferty.. I mean even Kannell who was Casey’s friend that he brought from the other firehouse after his team was killed was trapped in the building at the end of season 5 but he wasn’t in season 6 at all. He just disappeared..? I mean..isn’t the firehouse supposed to be this huge family? You’d think they’d check up on these people or at least have the ones who are alive come to the house to visit, right? Just show up for an episode or 2 to let the viewers know they’re still doing okay and have rebounded in a good way after leaving. Idk... those small little story lines would definitely be better than all the dramatic ones about the romantic relationships. Idk.. just my opinion.. it just kind of bugs me.. again, I love this show and I will watch it until it ends, I just wish they kept the written off characters somewhat relevant. Kannel moved to second shift and he was just a side character not meant to be long term just like Vargas. Jimmy and Chili left on bad notes and Jones again was a filler character. Rafferty I believe was mentioned as a floater PIC when Brett was on a furlough or something. However Jones was mentioned just once after the firefighter friend of Herrman’s died, the one that went back to look for Herrman. The overzealous father from hockey. Herrman said he was the first to put money in when Jones died. Clarke was in Severide’s storyline with Anna( an injury ended his career at CFD so he became an doctor and was a member of Anna’s team.) Now you have a point about Mills who was a beloved friend. It seems only the deceased members get mentioned. Shay via her memorial on the door and Otis with his statue memorial and namesake of Joe’s son.
