@@kingwacky184 no, it's not. To actually force a door with the Irons, a second firefighter is typically a necessity. One manipulates the halligan and the other drives it into place with a slamming tool.

The slamigan is not an actual tool, yes we sometimes use the sledge but no one has yet to put a bolt through a halogen and sledge then say it’s a great new tool, given we already use the halogen and flat headed axe

It doesn’t work. First, no you can’t use the forks with the bevel to the door. Second, any competent fireman can hold the bar in place and pound the adz in by either wedging the butt of the hammer in their armpit, striking the adz with the top dorsal side of the hammer, or choking up to just under the head and pounding it in. Thank you NBC for making the world think that forcible entry would be a two man job if it weren’t for this dumb thing

The things they do in Chicago fire are very dangerous and reckless. They make firefighters out to be superhuman and invisible when in reality we are just like everyone else. We are just as human as the people we serve but are suits just make us more protected and able to go into IDLH environments (immediately dangerous to life and health). If we take are masks off in a burning building we will die just like anyone else. I just wish they educated themselves on the fire service more before they made theses kinds of shows.

Think about it there dealing with live actual fire but control burn they have actual firefighters in background on standby with emts and they did behind the scenes of them doing training when they have like maybe few days instead of like 8-18 weeks of training in the academy its really cool they use chicago fire Academy and actual fire house 51but when the station gets actual calls since its a 24/7 busy station they have to stop filming and move out of the way i mean again really cool

Reasons why this is not realistic whatsoever 1. No metal door will ever pop open that easily. Takes a lot of force so usually two guys. 2. You can use a Sledge with the halligan, but it's overall impractical. Axes and halligans can be easily paired together so it saves space and fulfills the same function as with the sledge, but has more functions overall. By attaching the sledge to the halligan, you're eliminating functions of the fork and the pike. The adze end is the only thing you can use. 3. One man can take the door by himself, but not how the slamigan depicts. You can do a sorta baseball bat swing to get the pike in the door to break the frame, or stick the adze in and hit it with the ax. Yeah that last one is like the slamigan, but the thing is that you can get right up to the door and not have to stand far away. Overall, the slamigan is a joke and a waste of money. Marrying an ax to the halligan saves time, money, and gives more functions to the firefighter. Year and a half of being a firefighter.
