I really appreciate how fearless you two are when visiting a new city. I've lived in the Chicagoland area for nearly 25 years, and I still have anxiety going into the city. I've never had Gino's East because that is truly a Chicago thing, but those of us in the suburbs either gravitate to Giordano's or Rosati's (Giordanos being the slightly better option in my opinion). (We of course have Portillos which is awesome but we prefer Buona Beef...that's off topic though). There is a Giordano's in Las Vegas somewhere around the Horseshoe/ex-Ballys, so I would love to see a video of you going there and comparing it to your Gino's East Chicago Deep Dish Pizza experience!
@billandlisa Жыл бұрын
Thanks Kevin! I think we're just used to exploring new cities we travel to. We have been to Giordano's at the Horseshoe a couple of times and would say it's pretty close to the one we went to in Chicago. Of all the deep dishes though, our favorite is Pequod's. Thanks for watching!
@lotuswiz Жыл бұрын
@@billandlisa Wow! Pequods is not something any of us suburbanites know about! We do have Lou Malnati's nearby, but they seem to be about 30% more expensive than Giordanos so we just haven't pulled that trigger. But I do remember your Pequod's video! If I can overcome my anxiety of Chicago, we MUST go there! Thanks so much for your great videos....we are huge fans. You always make us smile! Keep it going!

Hi Bill and Lisa! I grew up in Chicago and used to go to that same Gino's East back over 20 years ago..was just a few blocks away from my dental school. How nostalgic! Anyway, the crust back then used to not be so thick around the edges and certainly was not soggy...something changed for sure. Sausage used to be a patty and not pieces. Gino's was my favorite, then Giordanos. Lou Malnati's wasn't around back then but did get a chance to try it on a recent trip to Chicago. Absolutely agree with you guys! Lou is by far now the best! You guys are always so spot on!
@amrakx14 жыл бұрын
The roast pork and the char siu were the frosting on your Chicago cake! I was listening for the crunchy skin sound. I could also taste the canoli crispy and creamy with unsweetened chocolate chips! There were so many large pieces of clams in the chowder which you don’t usually see in Seattle. I like the detailed close up photos! As usual, my taste buds and appetite are living virtually through your shared adventures! There are times I feel I can actually taste the food lol! Keep the adventure alive and well! Appreciate it!

Once again, thank you for being here in my hometown of Chicago. What made me smile, was seeing your FB post yesterday with comments from other followers here in Chicago. Harold's Chicken is very good. I wish you would of also tried their hot sauce to go with the wings. Nothing better than dipping those wings into both sauces.
@margejohnson29874 жыл бұрын
Tloc103 I personally think the combination of both sauces gives the chicken a delicious taste And I like their hot sauce a lot. It has just enough back heat.

Don't leave Chicago without stopping by Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken! We usually go to the one on 181 N. Morgan. Their chicken sandwiches (esp. the spicy one) are spectacular, no joke. Donuts are on point as well. For coffee, try Dark Matter (served at Do-Rite also). Al's Italian Beef is another essential. If you're in the mood for a proper steak, I can vouch for Chicago Cut. Expensive, and worth it. Great for a date night!

So.. not to defend Gino's east.. but that crust was unusually thick! It's not usually quite that thick. I love that it has cornmeal in it. Lisa, you can get a thin pattie of just sausage at Gino's East too, like Lou's. I like them all.. but I rate them Gino's 1, Lou's 2, and Giordano's 3. I've lived in Chicago twice, I would say that I love to visit, but I don't like living (or driving) there!

I live in Chicago and deep dish is more for tourists, I'll only eat deep dish maybe once or twice a year, what real Chicagoans on a regular basis eat is tavern style pizza which is thin crust pizza cut in squares and not slices (similiar to St Louis Pizza but they use Provel cheese). Also, mild sauce tastes like Open Pit BBQ to me, but its a mixture of ketchup, bbq sauce and hot sauce, each place has its own different ratios, its most commonly found on the south side of Chicago. Next time you visit, please try a Maxwell St Polish from JIm's or Express Grill by UIC and a breaded steak sandwich from Ricobene's, these are the hidden gems that tourists always miss eating.
