"Hard to Say I'm Sorry" is a song by American rock group Chicago. It was written by Lead Singer Peter Cetera and producer David Foster, and released on May 17, 1982 as the lead single from the album Chicago 16. The song hit number one for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on September 11 of that year. It was their first top 50 hit since "No Tell Lover" in 1978. In the fall of 1982, while it was moving down the Hot 100, it just left the top 50 within two weeks from #4.
Chicago is an American rock band formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. The self-described "rock and roll band with horns" began as a politically charged, sometimes experimental, rock band and later moved to a predominantly softer sound, generating several hit ballads. The group had a steady stream of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Second only to The Beach Boys in Billboard singles and albums chart success among American bands, Chicago is one of the longest-running and most successful rock groups, and one of the world's best-selling groups of all time, having sold more than 100 million records.
Lyrics:
Ev'rybody needs a little time away
I've heard her say
From each other
Even lovers need a holiday
Far away from each other
Hold me now
it's hard for me to say I'm sorry
I just want you to stay
After all that we've been through,
I will make it up to you
I promise to
And after all that's been said and done
you're just a part of me I can't let go
Couldn't stand to be kept away
Just for the day
From your body
Wouldn't want to be swept away
Far away from the one that I love
Hold me now
It's hard for me to say I'm sorry
I just want you to know
Hold me now
I really want to tell you I'm sorry
I could never let you go
After all that we've been through,
I will make it up to you
I promise to
And after all that's been said and done
you're just a part of me I can't let go
After all that we've been through,
I will make it up to you,
I promise to
