This was their earliest song and when they were known as "Chicago Transit Authority." They were a much rawer and grittier Band than they eventually became a couple of years later. I liked them Raw and gritty, like this song.

"I'm A Man" by Chicago Live at Tanglewood in July 1970 is the one to watch, as with "25 Or 6 To 4" and the whole Tanglewood concert!

I would have said that too, but after seeing this live…I actually prefer this one better.

@@lordessducky8494 Nah, the sound mix was terrible in this one -- very muffIed compared to Tanglewood, which is the standard

I make you think what a musical prodigy Steve Winwood was when writing and singing this kind of music in England at 15. Chicago's early albums were all bangers. When Chicago founder Terry Kath shot himself playing Russian roulette, the world was robbed of one of its greatest guitarists. If someone is depressed, lonely, or hurting, there is always someone somewhere that you can reach out to.

True but Terry shot himself by accident. He thought the gun was unloaded. He wasn't playing Russian roulette which can't be done with an automatic....only a revolver anyway.

I loved Chicago in their early years, Beginning, 25 Or 6 To 4 & many other songs with Terry Kath playing his guitar like a mad man…so good! 👏👏👏👏🥰♥️

Yea man, if it wasn't for YT, probably thousands of younger people wouldn't have heard this one for example. Growing up in that period hearing all the music starting in late 50s and everything after that was something special, indeed. Peace Shawn.

Don't know if YT has any video versions of it, but "I'm a Man" is also on the 4-disc album Chicago at Carnegie Hall recorded after the release of Chicago III. It has live versions of every song on their first three albums, including "Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon".

As a really old rocker from the 60s, much as I enjoy CTA, Spencer Davis group's version is definitely my favourite. And I say this as a long time percussionist!

Chicago Transit Authority with Terry Kath is by far the best version of the band. Others came along and really changed the feel and direction of the band and they lost this whole jam band feel that the first albums had.

I love both versions, they're both very special to me. But for different reasons, I suppose it's because I associate each song with a different time period in my life. either way, this was so much fun thank you Shawn. This brought back some wonderful memories. I thought I'd suggest another song by Steve Winwood, if interested. Especially since there are so many other great suggestions for other Chicago tunes. "Steve Winwood - Roll With It - BBC1 - Monday 6th June 1988" (by the channel: my musicfootage) --This song he released during his solo career, it's considered "blue-eyed soul" and is from his fifth solo studio album called "Roll With It" released in 1988. It was a follow -up to Winwood's hit 1986 album called "Back In The Highlife" which peaked at number #3 on the Billboard 200. and as always, I enjoyed hanging out and rocking with you. Thanks for sharing.

Love their version best, and heard both live and studio versions. I saw them at college soon after their second album came out and they were fantastic. I still like the studio version for all the different nuances, but all are great. Blessings all.
