This was my very first marathon as I only started running last year at 57 and kinda got hooked. I did the training and thought I was prepared. Wheels started coming off the train about 25K but the atmosphere kept me going until the end. I didn’t really know what to expect, but it was sensory overload the entire time and was so cool it kept my mind off the running a bit. Took longer than I had hoped, was much harder than I anticipated, I’m so sore I can barely walk, but it was AWESOME! Thanks Kofuzi your videos have been helpful and inspirational while training.

Welcome to the club and congrats! For future reference, from my experience with this particular marathon, I think that hitting a wall at around 25k comes from going out too quick. The lower Michigan part followed by the GPS killing valleys of the loop make pacing at the start really hard. At this point, I expect to run a fair bit slower than the crowd for those first 2-3 miles, letting people pass me up, then use the mile markers to lock in my pace, and then slowly pass people the rest of the race (this is the exact opposite of the first few times I ran it, where I would run _faster_ than the crowd, and then get passed the rest of the race).
@johnrwilker2 жыл бұрын
@@dalegaliniak607 Maybe I was off on my pacing goal because I was a first timer but I was right on the pace I wanted up until that point. Right around there, the atmosphere of the crowd changed a bit and instead of being overwhelmed with everything, this was the first real time I started thinking “this is starting to hurt real bad” and I chose to walk. Once I got into the Pilson(?) neighborhood and China town, I started to get a bit of second wind but by then, my mind was telling me that I’m already off pace so it was “OK” to do the walk run routine, so I did. This just gives me plenty of room for improvement on my next one! Thanks for the encouragements.

After a couple of years of finding running / motivation / positivity quite hard to come by I was beginning to question why I would put myself through the training and hard work again. BUT after watching your video I was reminded of the buzz running can give you. I was reminded of the atmosphere of race day. I was reminded of the community running can create. All of my runs - since watching this video - have been so much more positive. I keep remembering the smile on your face and that gives me an instant lift!!!! Brilliant video!
