The Alpari World Match Racing Tour welcomed the Chicago Match Cup for the first time ever in 2012 and there was no shortage young talent, confident that their experience of Lake Michigan could give them victory.
First-time Tour Card Holder Pierre-Antoine Morvan (FRA) Vannes Agglo Sailing Team and fellow youngster Keith Swinton (AUS) Black Swan Racing fancied their teams' chances pre-event, both favouring the smaller TOM 28 MAX boats and having experienced conditions on Lake Michigan.
Swinton won the Chicago Match Cup in 2011 before it stepped up to World Tour status. Could that make him a potential winner against the World Class field?
Chicago was subject to some testing weather which varied from glorious sunshine to thunderous storms, with patchy conditions meaning frequent marker alterations tested the crews versatility throughout.
Tour leader Bjorn Hansen (SWE) Mekonomen Sailing Team knew going into the event that victory would put him in a commanding position at the midway point through the season. Could he put himself in line for the Tour victory that he has been competing for so long to achieve?
The excitement continued at the Chicago Match Cup.
